If true, this could be the most significant thing to happen to Tulane football since they tore down the old one.

According to the article, they plan to build a 25,00 to 30,000 football stadium on campus. The Superdome people have not heard of the Tulane plans.

I hope they have natural turf so the LSU Ag students can break in and plant the eye of the tiger in contrasting grass at midfield !!!! :thumb:

If they're going to maintain (and support) a football team, I believe they need to move out of the Superdome. A nice, cozy stadium would suit them fine and provide a true game atmosphere. Maybe this will help build a fan base and provide Tulane students with the ability to begin their own on-campus traditions. It shouldn't be looked at as a downgrade. It's just a reasonable approach ideal for the level of program they have. :thumb:

...and for those Tulane fans who hate LSU...

If this falls through you may want to contact Slidell High. Their colors are also green & white and their stadium probally holds several thousand fans. In fact since they're already on your schedule...it's a win-win situation.

this. and most tulane fans will agree with you.

tulane fans know that even with buses to the dome, etc, and the school doing everything it can to get students there, that they will never get a large student following until they get back on campus. and building lifelong fans start with students. i believe that is a large part of why the alumni is so apathetic about football and sports. they didnt get "indoctrinated" (for lack of a better word) when students. it seems a large part of their fan base is older. the ones that remember the old tulane stadium.

rick dickson is doing everything he can to try to build tradition. but it is never gonna take hold until they get back on campus. or at least a hell of a lot closer.

As a college football fan, I would think a full-to-capacity, 30,000 seat on-campus stadium is better than a half empty 70,000 seat stadium miles from campus, even if that off-campus stadium is the Superdome.

Tulane doesn't have a lot of southern kids there who grew up on college football and the tailgating scene. It's like having a school up north transplanted down south and expecting them to have the knowledge about how to do it the right way.

anyway, I agree that this has to be better than playing in the superdome. Hell I don't think they even filled up the superdome that year they went undefeated and then helped create the BCS.

It has been said before, a refurbishment of Tad Gormley is a better option.
