if that was the case, then nobody would think Barry Sanders was any good. during his 10 seasons with the Lions, the Lions went 78-82 (win pct of 48.8%)

but yeah, to all the people freaking out that the thread title says "A&M's Johnny Football is better than Cam Newton," i choose that title to stir up responses to the thread. all I'm saying is that when it comes to total offense, Johnny Manziel is putting up better numbers that Cam Newton did after 6 games, and he might very well finish the season with better total offense numbers that Cam Newton. if he does, does that make Manziel better than Cam Newton? of course not, but it's still pretty freaking impressive, no? was Josh Reed as WR in college as good as Cam Newton was as QB in college? no, but it's still pretty impressive that Josh Reed is #1 in SEC history in receiving yards gained in both a single season (1,740) and in a single game (293 vs Alabama). but back to Manziel...

    consider the following:

    1) Manziel has only played in 6 career games, and he is already #1 and #2 in SEC history when it comes to total yards of offense in a single game (576 yards against La Tech last game, and 557 yards vs Arkansas 3 games ago).

Tim Tebow's best? 533 yards vs. Cincinnati in 2009 (#5 in SEC history)

Peyton Manning's best? 508 yards vs. Kentucky in 2007 (#11 in SEC history)

Cam Newton's best? 408 yards vs. both Kentucky and South Carolina in 2010 (not even top 25 in SEC history)

    2) Manziel is averaging 392.7 yards per game of total offense (370 vs the 3 SEC teams he's faced: Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss

he keeps that up, he's going to go down as #1 in SEC history when it comes to most yards per game of total offense in a season:

    YARDS PER GAME, SEASON

    (Johnny Manziel now -- 392.7 -- after 6 games)

#1 in SEC history -- 377.4 - Tim Couch, 1998 (finished #4 in Heisman voting that year)
#2 in SEC history -- 354.2 — Rex Grossman, 2001 (finished #2 in Heisman voting that year)
#5 in SEC history -- 321.6 - Tim Tebow, 2007 (won the Heisman that year)
#7 in SEC history -- 315.8 - Peyton Manning, 1997 (finished #2 in Heisman voting that year)
#9 in SEC history -- 309.1 - Cam Newton, 2010 (won the Heisman that year)

well, let's take a gander at what Cam did and what Manziel is facing. note that Cam finished 4 of his 9 SEC games with under 300 yards of total offense, and Manziel has only done that once, so he still has plenty of room to have a few more down games and still beat Cam Newton when it comes to total offense per game)

    2010 Cam Newton vs SEC
408 - vs Kentucky (#44/#72 defense in NCAA that year)
408 - vs South Carolina, SECCG (#43/#46 defense in NCAA that year)
334 - vs South Carolina, regular season (#43/#46 defense in NCAA that year)
328 - vs Arkansas (#36/#47 defense in NCAA that year)
303 - vs LSU (#11/#12 defense in NCAA that year)
299 - vs Georgia (#23/#36 defense in NCAA that year)
255 - vs Alabama (#3/#5 defense in NCAA that year)
254 - vs Ole Miss (#81/#107 defense in NCAA that year)
206 - vs Miss State (#21/#49 defense in NCAA that year)
AVERAGE: 311 yards per game vs SEC teams

    2012 Johnny Manziel vs SEC
557 - vs Arkansas (#90/#94 defense in NCAA currently)
320 - vs Ole Miss (#42/#67 defense in NCAA currently))
233 - vs Florida (#5/#13 defense in NCAA currently)
AVERAGE: 370 yards per game vs SEC teams

    coming up for Manziel:
LSU (#2/#8 defense in NCAA currently)
Auburn (#66/#79 defense in NCAA currently)
Miss State (#16/#25 defense in NCAA currently)
Alabama (#1/#1 defense in NCAA currently)
Missouri (#43/#60 defense in NCAA currently)
    (and Sam Houston State)

I am sure he is good but this sounds very similar to what all the Oregon fans where saying last year before the game....

TF, you are a very inciteful guy and I appreciate alot of your posts but this has Fantasy Football troll written all over it. Pump the breaks Sally. Yards mean nothing in blowouts and shootouts.

I dont want to feed the monster but a more telling number is the deviation between his avg and his median yds/gm.

You also make the argument that he was green in his first game but I could make that same argument for UF's defense.

All that, and put a "spy" on him, HIT HIM every play, turn someone loose, if it costs a couple of personal fouls, the "return" will show up in the 4th quarter in the form of
a "deer in the headlights look" when they are trying to come from behind and he is hurting. I will never forget that look on Bradfords face against Florida when they were trying to come back in the 4th quarter and you could tell Bradford was REAL TIRED of getting jacked. It WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT for LSU DB's to make NO DOUBT as to who owns the secondary, crossing routes have to look like nascar collisions!!!! Other than that.............be safe!

Except.....................Oregons QB is why they lost, he could not hit the field when he threw the ball and had LOTS of WIDE OPEN wr's. If the kid that is playing this year played last year..................much different game.

Johnny Football hasn't proven he can carry his team to victory through the SEC. His only real test was when they blew a 17-7 lead vs. Florida. His team almost blew a 27-0 lead vs Tech, and he threw a killer pick 6 in that near comeback. That's the only stat that matters. aTm needs him to be superman to win games, and there's no way he'll last in the SEC. He's not as big as Newton, and not as tough as Tebow.

Cam got his numbers against quality teams in clutch moments. There's something to be said about that, especially when he did it over and over against Clemson, LSU, Bama, Miss. State, South Carolina, etc. If he tears up, then he definitely deserves some respect but this convo is way too soon for Manziel.

Considering aTm won't win the division let alone the conference... i'd say it's way early for this conversation.

Not to mention if the dude knew anything about John Chavis' defense he would know that we rarely deviate from the defensive plan and that means we very rarely if ever use a spy.
