What you describe is the Georgia game and the way they couldn't stop Hillard because of the fatigue they were experiencing from the constant rotation of running backs... I really enjoy those games when we impose our will on a team...
I'm just thankful we have an experienced developer of QB talent. Does that mean it'll definately pan out? No... but things are a lot more promising for the upcomimg season then they were before.
Remember this, Jim Zorn was the QB's coach with the Ravens, he, like Can was fired. Jim was out of work for around 2 weeks (Picked up by another Pro team to be the QB's coach). Good coaches don't stay out of work long. Cam had a few offers, this one has been in the works for a while. Glad he and Les were able to get together. The Ravens followed Cams recipe to win the Super Bowl, didn't go far from what he was doing. Bobby Knight once told Cam he was too smart to be a Football Coach. Cam has a resume that not many in the NFL can match as far as OC. Talking with coaches I know, Les got a great one, the best one he could have signed this recruiting season.
I'm sold. These guys have to maintain a balanced offense. As long as you keep the defenses honest with 7 in the box, the power run game will abuse and misuse opponents. Bama likes to pass on first down just to let folks know, don't even think about cheating up. With LSU's running attack, 7 ain't enough. Now, how hard is that?
Move along, you are too easy. Everyone I talk to outside of LSU, seems to think this is a great hire. Les has done well, very well with the hire of Cam. This one allows Les to eat grass and kick A$$. This is one along the hire of Chief, Les was looking and he was just let go. A guy that knows the SEC and send kids to the Pros. Les was looking and Cam was out of a job. Many years would have to go by for Les to fall into a coach this good at this time. He was also lucky when Krags came into play. Another one that he got to LSU and sold him on the job. Oh, Les worked hard to get these guys, they just don't fall into his lap. He sells them on the SEC, LSU and Tiger Town. More on Cam. Cam will fit in well recruiting, he can talk with Kids, Families and High School coaches. He's personable, get him in a crowd and look out. He knows people, if he doesn't know you, give him 5 minutes of your time. He can fit in anywhere. Like Bob Knight said, he's too smart to be a Football Coach. But thats all he's ever wanted to be. How long he stays? No one knows, but his youngest is in his teens, maybe its time to take it easy off the field, oh, he'll still do his job. But you look at the other coaches at LSU, Les, Krags, Cooper at U-High games, Les likes to have the whole family involved. Les is more of a family man that most head coaches. I saw this all the time, with many of the coaches I know, many times it not about the money, its more about stability. Nothing is worst that having to tell your kids, we have to move cause Daddy lost his job. It takes special kids and a special Mom to hold a family together during those times. A coaching friend of mine that was coaching at Pitt. asked his daughter where she wanted to go to college, Tx. Tech. Another friend coaching in Tx, asked his daughter, her reply, Auburn. Many of these kids never forget a school, it leaves an impression. Many of the coaches I still talk with would come back to LSU at the drop of a hat. When word gets out an opening is at LSU, many guys I know let it be known, they would like to be interviewed. LSU is a Special Place, one of the tops in the Nation, just ask a few coaches I know, an ask about working with Les, same thing.
