Obviously mett has limited accuracy and no touch. That's why the play calling is like it is. They have to pass when there are 9 in the box so they throw outs and flies. Mett's accuracy is not trusted for any other routes. Arm strength is way overrated in college. I don't blame clm for the qb problems. Perilloux screwed Lsu QBs for 4yrs, but I was disappointed they went the juco route for a qb. You don't get to develop your qb and juco guys are there because they are immature. That's not such a big deal for a wr or dl but a Bfd for a qb.
I think Mett is going to pull it all together. I remember this guy last year named Jarrett Lee, who everyone was sure would never be a good QB, who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and seemed to favor the other teams defensive backs over his own receivers. That same Jarrett Lee won eight straight games in a row against some good defenses, and passed very well. Lee turned it around, and played dang good last year. The only thing that was holding Lee back was the play calling .. and of course, having a Head Coach who had no confidence in him ... to the point that he benched him the first chance he got for an arguably lesser QB. I think the same for Mett. He has the abilities .. he is capable of pulling a stellar performance. He had some issues last game on accuracy, but that hasn't been the rule. I really don't see why everyone is Hatin' on Mett. Give the guy some love ... he may suprise you.
facts are facts, no one is hating, just telling the the truth, give it a try. when you throw for 97 yards and easily could have thrown for at least 250 in a blow out, I have a problem with that.
Sure .... but let's not be selective about our facts. Mett didn't have a great day against aTm. Hey .. it happens. I have bad days occassionally as well. But Mett has thrown well in other games. ... when receivers just dropped every pass that hit their hands ... or a game changing pass is completed, only to have the receiver run down and fumble it. The FACT is ... there is a very good pass game waiting to happen. .... there's going to be that game where the Oline provides the protection .. Mett will be spot on .. and the receivers are going to make film clip receptions. ..... that game happens on Nov. 3rd. Feel it man ... believe it!!!
rose colored glasses, the line has been protecting him the last 2 games. Its just not a bad day, he has been a disappointment. He has the ability, but it isnt coming together.
Mettenberger has not had a good season. For a guy in his second year of the LSU system and that coming off a 32-touchdown Junior College career, he seems awfully green.
Part of that could be all of the dropped passes he's experienced. Didn't we have like 7-8 drops in the Wash game this year? He ended up 11/22 when he should have been 19/22. Maybe that's caused him to lose confidence. Still no excuse, but just trying to figure out what's going on in his dome.
Red ... with the exception of the last game, I don't think you can put it all on Mett. Granted, there's been a gradual regression since the beginning of the season, starting with the AU game ... but there's been so much that went into that. The first three games, Mett looked pretty decent. ... 19/26, 12/18, 17/22 ... for about 200 yrds per game. ... then came AU., Tow, FL. As I recall, O-line play and dropped passes played a big part in the numbers for those games ... specifically FL. It wasn't until SC that things started looking bad on Mett's end of the deal with accuracy issues .. and aTm .. those accuracy issues seemed to be agrivated for what ever reason., which weren't there in the beginning of the season, even against FL. Ya gotta think that the 3 game stretch of AU, Tow, and FL were really frustrating for Mett ... and I guess may have hit his confidence in himself, when in reality, dropped passes are not his fault. This all goes back to the thread I started a few days ago .... the mental aspect of this game is huge .. especially given the past regarding LSU QBs and the Fan Base. I think the boy was trying to damn hard in the aTm game .... and it hurt his play. He knows what people are feeling .. he feels what the fan base is saying. I really don't see how come we can't just all suck it up and pull for the kid! So what if he's not Drew Brees .... there's no need sitting on the edge of your couch worrying if he is going to throw the perfect pass every play .. or if he's going to get sacked, or whatever. He's our QB, and if we win, it will be with him at the helm ... so, you, me and everyone else might as well cheer like hell for him to do great, as opposed to moaning about the past. [I mean ... HEY .. if we could stomach JJ for 3 years ... knowing that there was no chance in hell that he'd ever improve ... which he didn't .. I think we can put up with a season of Mett, who showed in the first 3 games that he has the potential to do it right ... all other things falling into place ...like protection and catching the dang ball].
I agree that protection, accuracy, and soft hands have all occurred independently of each other. Logically, it's only a matter of time before they all line up. Maybe it'll be in Death Valley on 11/3...who knows? I'll root for them, either way...even if I'm cursing the TV.
