Define "for now". I know what you're talking about, but that is smoke and mirrors to avoid possible litigation. On Monday, TAMU officials will have their meeting, and when they come calling, the SEC can tell the Big 9 "hey, they came to us"...
i would like to see "not for a long time" but i'm afraid you may be right. the sec wants/needs to be able to say they didnt interfere in another conf. it's called "covering your ass".
Mandel is reporting that the SEC Presidents are saying "not so fast" to A&M. It is not a done deal. They don't want to be seen as a conference breaker. A&M will have to leave the Big 12 before the SEC will consider them. And it won't likely happen without a corresponding east division acquisition. The SEC is going to take its time with this which is smart.
On one hand I don't want crappy teams to dilute the strength and rep of the SEC. On the other, I don't want any more big boys. This conference is tough enough as it is. How about we keep the SEC as is and forget adding new blood.
They're smart enough (yes, even aggies are) to realize this is the SEC covering their arses. When aTm meets tomorrow, they'll decide if they wanna do it. Then the SEC can say, hey...they came to us...when the Big 9 cries about the SEC tearing the Big 9 apart. Legal. Posturing. Nothing more.
