Then Urban Meyer will be the biggest idiot in college sports.

Meyer can contend for a NC every year at UF. But the same can't be said at Notre Lame.

Lame might have had some good classes lately, but they're nowhere close to the type of "athletes" Meyer has at Florida.

Meyer, you have it made at Florida. Don't do like Saban did and screw it up.

I disagree. He can set up a pretty lame schedule, much like Notre Dame played this season and have only 1 tough game, USC.

After Tebow's gone, Florida will not contend for another NC for a while.

Yes, BUT, he's an honest ass in regards to his coaching aspirations. He's not feeding FU fans the typical coach speak.

This is true. I heard him on some ESPN radio show -- he asked ND if he could just have one or two players in each recruiting class that don't measure up to the existing standards. They said no. He went to Florida.

Alternatively, this could simply be a ploy by Oscar Meyer to get Florida to empty its piggy bank at the end of this season and give him a big fat extension.

And, they always get ranked higher than they should translating to higher rankings in tight BCS seasons resulting in more shots at a NC. If TX or ALA this year had NDs name, they would be one of the teams in the NCG. All of the teams, FLA, OU, TX, and ALA have one loss - they just occurred at different points of the season and thus 2 are locked out. ND would not be locked out - esp in a subjective, non-playoff system.

Even if this were 30 years ago, Texas and Alabama are just as big a "name" in college football as Notre Dame.

"Traditional powers" always get more love in the polls, and Texas, Alabama, and ND are all "traditional powers."

But when it comes to sheer popularity, ND is in a league of it's own.

    Top 10 most popular, 1997-1999
    ND -- #1, #1, #1
    Texas -- NR, NR, #10
    LSU -- NR, NR, NR
    Bama -- ??, ??, #7

    Top 10 most popular, 2002-2004
    ND -- #1, #1, #1
    Texas -- #6, #8, #4
    LSU -- NR, #9, #6
    Bama -- NR, NR, NR

What's astonishing about ND's popularity, is that those polls were taken in the midst of ND's 15-year bowl drought and in the midst of ND's NCAA-record 9 straight bowl losses. Before now, ND hadn't won a bowl game since 1993.

Those links above speculated on how ND could be so popular even when they sucked, and they mentioned that it probably had a lot to do with that contract ND has with NBC to put all the ND home games on national broadcast TV every season.
