Actually, for some reason, I believe Deion IS really just trying to help the kid out. And he's been quoted as saying he doesn't think FSU is the best fit for ND. But he definitely is being recruited by FSU, and I can't see how it's not a violation. I actually wouldn't want anyone to be punished for this, as I think the kid's had a hard enough life so far, and has a lot on his plate for someone his age.
It has been reported here that Eric Edwards was at the game to see his brother play and that Brady James has denied recruiting for Bama. No recruit has reported speaking to either player. They just were seen chatting with their former coach at the game, which isn't illegal, immoral, or especially surprising.
No difference if he's not a legal guardian. It doesn't matter if he's acting as a guardian, if it ain't legal he has no guardian status and contact is an NCAA violation. Except . . . people referred to as "established family friends" enjoy some exemptions from NCAA recruitment rules. I don't know enough about the Deion/Devine situation.
Well, as far as I know, the kids parents both died when he was young, so Deion is about as close as family as he has.
I'm probably wrong on this but I think the Reggie Bush/Joe McKnight thing was/would be illegal because it was(supposedly) arranged by Pete Carroll. Entirely unsure though.
