I'm not going to get into a discussion about whether or not Solich should've been fired because I don't follow Nebraska football enough to intelligently talk about it.

However, they have wandered around in a wasteland since. And, yes, their defense is much improved since Pelini arrived, but their offense is much worse than ours. Statistically, it may not pan out that way, but it was beyond painful to view in that Big 12 CG. And keep in mind that the Big 12 just isn't the SEC. The Big 12 North isn't even the Big East.

If you're willing to see Miles go and proceed through 10 or so years trying to right a ship that may or may not have been sinking, more power to you. But until it's certain it's sinking, I don't think it's a good business practice to throw the captain overboard.

I don't think there would be enough support to fire Miles this year and I wouldn't do something like unilaterally. His contract and the economic climate make a change even less likely. It helps that our QB situation should be the best it has been in three years, that our defense is much improved, that our recruiting seems to be damn strong again, and that we've hired a pretty well received passing coordinator to help our offense along. So... wait and see. Another year like the one passed and the climate will be better than ever to make a change and a much improved season means I made a good decision to wait.

So WHY does this 1970 to 1989 period loom so strongly in your mind? What relevance does it have to now? We've been pretty damn good for 10 years. One of the best. Top-5.

And I have disagreed. Live with it.

    Based on what? A 9-win, top-20 finish?

Then what is it that is making you upset? Les has done damn strong and so did his predecessor. LSU has recruited damn strong under both. We have had more double-digit wins than single-digit wins and no losing seasons at all. We have two national and three SEC championships in this decade. Why in the world does one average and one better than average seasons make you think that LSU is returning to the "also-ran"ages before the "dark ages"? I just don't get it. You say "top-5 is elite", well LSU has finished #1 and #3 under Les, was only unranked in 2008, and has improved that. It surely seems that you are upset that LSU did not finish in the top-5 this year. What team in the country has four ranked seasons out of the last five with two top-5 finishes and is headed for "also-ran" status?

I like me some "damn strong". :thumb:

I never thought Miles would win a NC. Maybe I'm wrong again. We'll see. Of course, you're not defending Miles really when you say things like "if he doesn't get it done, we'll find someone who will," you're defending LSU. My issue isn't with LSU, it's with Miles. And if I turn out to be wrong again about Miles, I'll swallow my pride and just accept that I'll never understand his wily ways.

Ya, I know several people with that problem. They didn't like Miles when we hired him for some illogical reason and stuck with that unreasonable belief despite his great success at LSU. You were wrong about Miles, and didn't swallow your pride... instead you arrogantly refused to believe you were wrong about him with your first impression of him when we hired him. Now he starts slipping from the three consecutive 11-win seasons he led LSU to (the greatest period in LSU history since at least the Billy Cannon days) and now you are telling yourself "if I turn out to be wrong again about Miles, I'll swallow my pride"... but you are only lying to yourself and everybody else.

I was open to the hire of Les Miles. I didn't illogically pass judgement before a down was played. I was underwhelmed by the product on the field as time passed, however. When Miles won the NC I admitted I was wrong and defended him the season following the NC. That slowly began to crumble, but I was back on board after the win at Georgia Tech. This season caused me to second guess myself and I'm fully off the wagon again. I believe I was right about Miles from season 1 and the NC is seeming more and more like an anomoly the further we get from it. I do not rush to judgement and I am a fairly logical fellow. In conclusion, your assumptions are baseless, flaming, emotional, illogical, and wrong.

Anyway, all things considered, I don't disagree with Alleva's decision to let Miles keep the keys to our football program. I really appreciated his last letter to the fanbase.

Seems to me the problem with this thread is in the title. “Unwavering” fans. The opposite would be “never happy” fans, I guess.

Most of us are a bit more rational than either of those extreme descriptions.

Yet, some folks get their panties in a wad because some of us aren’t calling for Crowton’s and Miles’ heads.

I say: get a grip, people. The program is in FANTASTIC shape.

If Miles and/or Crowton were to be fired and replaced by better coaches, I’d be ecstatic. If Miles stays at LSU, I’m good with that, too.

Let’s put it this way. In five years, the only teams that have beaten LSU have been Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Penn State. There’s no ULM or App State or Troy loss there.

I actually read a post in the recruiting forum that all but lamented our recruiting success under Miles. Some people are so miserable in their own lives, that they actually wish LSU football would fail because they don’t like Les Miles for whatever reason.

And don’t give me the “that’s what being a fan means” argument. What a load of crap. I decorate my Christmas tree in P&G. I wear at least one purple or gold item nearly every day. Every screen saver on every computer I own has an LSU scene. I’ve had specially designed hearing protection molded in P&G. I have commemorative season tickets from the 2007 MNC run in a frame on my office wall just below the framed Sports Illustrated covers.

Being a fan doesn’t mean expecting the impossible and booing/leaving early when it doesn’t happen.

Being a fan means enjoying the game, supporting the team, and loving everything to do with LSU.

So, I’m not sure I’ve ever met an “unwavering” Les Miles supporter. But I have met quite a few reasonable people who understand, in the context of real life that spans more than the last decade, just how good it is to be a Tiger fan.

"If you aren't happy being an LSU fan under Les as a football coach, then don't spend your money on LSU and go find another hobby until we get a new coach that you do like."

Amen brother!! I think Les is the right man for our school, I'd take him over any, and I mean any other coach out there!!

By and large, the majority of people on this forum want him to stay. Everyone has their grips and dislikes, but there's not such thing as the perfect coach. Stick around long enough, you'll meet the Negatigers :miles:

and might i add, its peoples right not to like crowton, les, etc. and to even complain.

but that doesnt make them less of a fan that needs to go find another hobby. just like it doesnt mean that those that want les to stay arent real fans.

everyone has their right to their opinions and to voice those opinions. as long as they voice them respectfully.
