If you must call the support-and-move-forward crowd "sunshine pumpers", then you must accept being called "chicken littles" or "gloom-and-doomers".

Why don't we just drop the defamation and discuss the issues.

LSU owned the Aggies in the 60's,70's,and 80's.Your memory seems to only go back to the early 90's when the Aggies were violating NCAA rules so blatantly that they came within a hair of receiving the death penalty.

Fine by me. Call me whatever you want, I won't lose any sleep over it. I used the term just as a matter of convenience referring to one of the two camps and didn't intend to "defame" anybody, but since you're apparently so sensitive about it I'll just have my spokesperson type my opinions from now on so as not to offend anyone.

From 1970 to before Saban we were:
    :TOP 05: 1 time in 30 years.
    :TOP 10: 3 times in 30 years.
    :TOP 15: 10 times in 30 years.
    :TOP 25: 12 times in 30 years.
:UNRATED: 18 times in 30 years.

Therefore, we were elite 3% of the time (1st year under Archer I believe), damn strong 7% of the time, an also-ran 23% of the time, mediocre 7% of the time, and less than mediocre 60% of the time.

    1980-1989 3-1-0
    1990-1999 1-5-0

Our record against the Aggies from 1970 to before Saban is 7-9. We had a good stretch in the 80s, but struggled in the 90s. I guess my memory goes back to the late 80s. I was 10 in 88. One of my first memories was getting spanked by the Canes in the cold and rain and getting soaked.

    Team All Time Rankings

College Football Warehouse ranks teams based on Winning Percentage, Strength of Schedule, National Championships, and Big 4 Bowl wins. The all time football team rankings are:

    1. Notre Dame
    2. Alabama
    3. Southern California
    4. Michigan
    5. Oklahoma
    6. Texas
    7. Ohio State
    8. Nebraska
    9. Louisiana State
    10. Tennessee

Nick Saban accounted for five of the most successful seasons in LSU history, second only to Les Miles. Thats 5 years out of the last 10 in the 117 year history of LSU football that Nick is responsible for. The notion that LSU was mediocre before Nick is absurd. LSU was mediocre in the 1990's, but that was the worst decade in the history of LSU football. In the big picture, LSU is the #9 team in the country and the #2 team in the SEC for all time.

    That ain't mediocre.

And at the current rate, ND, Michigan and Tennessee are going to drop below LSU.

for clarity, the same site, red, has lsu at #23 for the quarter century just before saban (which i think is the time frame john was talking about). i suppose #23 isnt mediocre, but perhaps if youre just talking about within the SEC it is. with Bama, UF, UT, UGA, Auburn and Arky all higher (i know Arky wasnt in the SEC for most of those years)

LSU is in its prime years right now, no doubt about it. Still in all LSU was one of the better programs outside of this new era. WHile LSU wasnt quite one of the elite programs(top 8) like its been this decade it was in the top 10 quite a few times and top 25. LSU had good decades in the 70s and 80s. The 90's were a lull which brings down the cumulative avg. Overall LSU is one of the better programs historically even without the Satan and Miles years.

    I repeat...

I said before the dark ages of the early 90s we were an also-ran. This seems to back up my claim. I'm not saying that Nick Saban didn't help us realize our potential or that we aren't one of the best programs in the history of college football, what I'm saying is that we weren't too impressive in the 30 years before the dark ages which I believe lead to the dark ages. You got bent out of shape at that notion but give overall program standings to defend your bent shape.

    Fixed it for you.
