And that INT we ran in for the score helped secure his SECCG win in '07... if not for that chances are we lost, his game wasn't phenominal.

You can't use the Perrilloux excuse two years out, especially considering the way our coaching staff has managed our QBs.

    ok awesome
Nick Saban will always be a reference point, especially when he is coaching (well) at Bama. How can you expect us not to compare our current coach with the successful coach he replaced? I do think people here can carry the Saban stuff too far, and he wasn't perfect here, but he's made his mark on LSU football and we'll never be able to erase that.

I am worried about Miles bringing us back to Earth rather than keeping us flying in dignified air. What's worse, the dark ages of the early 90s or the bland era before that? It felt good to be among the elite and I'd like to assume we are a good enough program to stay. If I'm wrong about Miles and he turns things around next season I can accept that and I'll be very slow to mouth off about Miles ever again. But I can't really say let's wait and see because I feel like I've been doing that since Miles got here (save the end of the 2007 season when he proved me "wrong" and the 2008 season when I felt like he was a genious that I would simply never understand). I don't understand how so many here don't feel like we've had sufficient wait and see time and have remained in Miles' corner.

I appreciate that you are willing to admit that Miles might not be the answer.

Saban and LSU had a mutually beneficial relationship. I think Saban helped us realize what potential our program had (he woke the sleeping giant) and LSU helped the nation realize that Saban is a hell of a coach.

That's some kind of nice post there with the numbers and all that.

To answer your question, yes. Miles won't be able to keep showing us a good time because he doesn't have the cash (coaching ability). He may be a good man, but if he's incapable of earning enough money to keep the lights on, there is an underlying problem.

l-i-l as I told you before, I will be one of the first in line should Miles not be able to keep the Tigers where they deserve to be. I am not however ready to say he isn't the man, just that LSU is first and no matter who is at the helm that is what is the most important.

    wow!
    really?
UT's 3 possessions leading to that pick TOTALED 10 yards.
what makes you think they would have magically found an offense if Zenon doesn't take it to the house.

My point was to the poster who said, "No doubt RP is SEC-caliber; his MVP in the SECCG vs. Tenn is a testament to that". When in actuality we won 21-14... basically off that INT taken for the score... meaning we didn't win all because of RP.

i don't think he was meaning that we won it solely on RP.
i took it to mean that the way he played in that game (as well as other spots he got action) showed reason to be pretty optimistic about this team with him taking snaps.

he was much more prepared and ready to play than anyone currently on LSU's roster.
'08 probably would have still fell short in a few games because he more than likely would have suffered a few growing pains as a 1st year starter.

But this year however is when we probably would have seen him peak as a college QB.

I agree 100%. With all of our other weapons and an experienced QB no doubt our season this year would've been different.

but on the plus side, 2010 should be better than if RP had stuck around.:thumb::crystal:

well in theory, it should be good, but not great.
either Lee or Jefferson would have been worked in gradually. only inserting him in spots where there was a high percentage of success. slowly build his confidence while also letting him learn game speed.
he would have stood on the sideline with a headset, hearing the play call, and watching the veteran do his thing.

so come 2010, he is a junior who has confidence and experience. yeah he still would have made some mistakes, but would have been much better off than when each were thrown into the fire.

his senior year, start inserting Russell Shepard in much the same way, and the cycle continues.

unfortunately, we haven't had the luxury of bringing a QB along slowly.
and while Jefferson had a few starts last year, this was really his 1st season with other teams game planning exclusively for him. He made mistakes.

it might click for him and the game slow down a bit next year. it may happen early, or maybe not til midseason (like JRs junior year). it may not happen at all. But we have no choice but to start him next season.

we already know Lee isn't going to lead this team. if we start Garrett, the whole process has to start from scratch again, and we'll all be sitting here next year hoping our QB develops.

Jefferson is our guy. And unlike others on this board who are ready to jump ship with JJs first bad game next year, I understand that sometimes these things take time.

And once it happens, teams will start to respect him a whole lot more. They won't blitz as much, and will no longer stack 14 men in the box. O-Line will no longer be tested as much as they are now. running lanes will start to open up a little bit more, and our defense might even be able to catch their breath once in a while.

Yes playcalling sucks right now, and i'm not interested in seeing much more of Crowton, but a lot of it revolves around the way teams are defending JJ.
when the light goes on for him (which I still think it will), things will change for the better.

I missed your post, sorry. Shula got the raw end of the stick and had one hand tied behind him. We got killed with severe scholarship limits. To win 10 games in 2005 on his watch was a remarkable feat.

Tubby was getting players by default, but so were many in the SEC. North Carolina St. should still be sending thank you cards. (Philip Rivers and co.).

Even last years 12 win season in the second half of games we were hanging on for dear life. This is really the first season are depth looks decent.
