I know its hard to switch gears but there are a few NBA Games on NBA TV featuring Pistol Pete. I plan to DVR them to watch later. I know its hard to switch gears but I have been looking for some of these for quite a while. They have been showing some good stuff, history on NBA TV since there is no NBA Season, what they showing is probably better than anything from today anyway.
It's probably the stuff they rolled early in the year. One against Detroit with the Jazz and one as an Atlanta Hawk, yes?
Yeah, I still have those things locked down on my DVR. The Detroit game is at the Dome against the Jazz. I was a kid when the Jazz where here. Tickets were $1.50 upstairs on the "Shoe Town" special, and $8 just above the floor-bench seating. I enjoyed the NBA back then. Now it just sucks.
When I was in the 8th grade, my homeroom teacher was Tom Superka. One day, my friends and I were talking basketball, when he went into his wallet, and pulled out a picture of himself guarding Pistol Pete. Turns out he played for the University of Georgia in the late 60's. Very cool. We asked him how he did against the Pistol. He said, very well. I held him under his average......43 points.
Back in the late eighties, I was involved in the renovation the the Maison Blanche department store on Canal St. in New Orleans. Once merchandise was brought into the store, every workman had a personal chaperone while the punch lists were worked through. For two days, I chopped mortises and installed locksets in dressing room doors while I talked with Pete's dad, who was my chaperone. True story. Two memorable days.
One of Pete's teammates once said that whenever Pete had the ball you had to keep your eyes on him or you might have a blind-pass basketball hit you in the head.
My highschool coach played PP. He said PP was coming right at him 3 on 1 fastbreak, he decided to attack the ball and PP went around the back threw his arms out with no ball showing making it disappear. My coach got faked out his draws. Then PP made the ball appear and made a layup.
