I don't think TM7 would make much of a difference here.

But the bright spot, IMO, is that we are in the same forumula that we've been in for years.

    Great Defense .....

    Anemic Offense .....

That formula has produced some really good seasons .... 13-0 last year .. and I dare say, this offense is no worse than last year's last 3 games. We beat AR and GA with defense and special teams.

BUT ..... I'm going to stand up for Mett. He's got some learning to do, but the guy does show sparks of being a good QB. He really needs to attend some speed camps or something, because I think a little bit of athleticism would help him out a bit ... and of course ... learning not to step on his own feet. And .. as I've said all along, some different pass plays could help him out a tad.

CLM has established LSU as a run team that can't pass. Even an FCS team loads the box on us. Imagine what FL and SC are going to do .. and their front four are much bigger and faster.

I don't think we should concede anything. We have a history of playing to the level of our competition.
We will know a lot more about this team after visiting "the swamp."

This is the most concerning aspect of last night. We actually would get some momentum only to cough up the ball.

I know you say CLM doesn't coach that ... and I'm not bashing Miles .. but there is something to say about discipline. Saban's AL teams are consistently disciplined .. and that is why they are good. I don't think they have better athletes ... but Saban maximizes what they have.

I mean .. all three backs coughed up the ball .. and Mett did as well.

EXACTLY! Where is this guy? This ticks me off more than anything about Miles. We now have Bolden...He has experience, he can scramble. Why not use him? Why not let Rivers go out and throw some short passes early in the season when the game was in the bag? He may shine. Miles never seems to explore at QB. Ironically, when he was forced to do this, JL got us 9 wins. Really sickening.

Yeah ... really. Ware coughed it up but recovered .. Hilliard coughed it up ... and Ford coughed it up. then of course Mett was stripped.

I don't see Bama's "talent" being any better than LSU. But you can't give up tons of yards on penalties and kill your momentum with turnovers. That's just not a winning strategy.

It's called experience and leadership. We are absent and lacking in both on the field. This is a team issue. It doesn't exclusively belong to either the coaches or the players. It belongs to the team as a whole. We have seen this before. In fact, if you have watched football for more than a year you have seen this play out on other teams as well.

The QB needs to be a leader on the offense. Mett has yet to assume that role. He needs ... experience in this system, on this team and on the field in tough situations. Leaders are not made skipping through the meadows. Leaders are forged in the fire. They are honed by adversity. You cannot simply take raw talent, throw it on the field and expect it to instantly begin cranking out wins. Mett needs to step up and become the commander of the offense and that is going to happen with time. Don't forget this guy has only 5 starts under his belt and he is 5-0.

I believe the coaches are working on the sloppy play. I believe Les when he says they start with ball security every practice. I believe they are pounding on penalties and turnovers and pushing the team to clean it up. The message will only partially resonate with this team coming from the staff. For this to truly take hold the team needs to start holding each other accountable and that is accomplished by field leadership. That will develop with experience.

Overall I still believe this is a better team than last year's. Unfortunately most of it is potential. This team has not put together that complete game. They have not stepped up and realized their full capabilities. This week would be a good time to do just that. Gut check time. Are they going to bring realized potential to the field or continue to under-perform? That is a question that will only be answered by both the players and coaches together.

Win in the Swamp next week and the month of September will become distant memory ...

Really you don't think not having a guy that can force turnovers, shorten fields, cover kicks, return kicks, and force opposing offenses to account for him on every play, is missed? To me, that's the biggest difference on D, and missing that is like pulling the mask off our inept offense and exposing it. Not to mention LSU protected the football last season. Add those 2 things up and our D is being forced to defend the short field, while our O is having to run more plays, and running more plays means more opportunities to make a mistake, especially when our coach decides to just say f it and turn into the most "unmad" hatter, and super conservative coach ever, basically putting the entire load on the defenses shoulders, and giving up on downfield passing.

I may be alone here, but I'd much rather be a fan of a 5-7 team playing to it's potential than a 14-0 team that never even comes close to its potential. Washington is the only game LSU has showed up to this year, and we're one win away from being bowl eligible already.

You're just like those who keep branding anyone that can actually see as a negatiger. Stating the truth is not trolling. And the truth is that my posts clearly show that I have been raising these issues for a long time. You're the troll for not actually admitting the dire situation LSU finds itself in. Wake up. It's long overdue.

You are alone. I've been a fan of a 3-9, 4-8 team that played to its potential. It sucked. 14-0 and not playing to potential is frustrating but much better. I'll take the Miles years over the Archer, Hallman years any day. ANY DAY!!!!! And if you say you wouldn't, you weren't around to witness the dark years.
