This thread seems the most logical to post this --

A few people on different threads tonight mentioned LSU looking ahead to Florida. That is very likely true, and perhaps tonight had trap game written all over it, and is the culmination of a weak schedule to open the season, not including Auburn last week. The Towson game was sandwiched in between two of the more hostile SEC environments that we have to play in this year. Leading up to the Auburn game, our schedule was relatively weak. I think this as much as anything else is contributing to a lack of focus and intensity from the team.

Yes, I know we're having issues on the OL, at QB, with our WR's, with some injuries, and with penalties. And yes, these problems have existed most of the season. I just want to think that better focus and greater intensity would help a great deal in overcoming some of these problems. I know that last year is not this year; however, look at how well LSU played starting with Oregon, traveling to WV, and scheduling these tougher games at the beginning of the year, as opposed to the so-called cupcakes. Over the years, LSU has not had a great track record against the cupcakes (and I'm going back to 1986 when Miami of Ohio left BR with a W). LSU wins most of them, but more often that not, the games are struggles. Just over the past several years lackluster games against McNeese, Troy, Appy State, Tulane come to mind, and even the mighty Saban wasn't immune. Anyone remember UAB?

Anyway, it's late and I'm starting to rant. Just looking for something to help explain tonight's effort. I'm always happy with a W, but I hope this team can buckle down and play mistake-free football, with focus and intensity going forward, as the tough part of the schedule starts now.

I think our defense last season was probably one of the best defenses to ever step onto a college field, and what that defense did with smothering teams, forcing 3rd and longs, and 3 and outs, and turnovers, then special teams shortening the field, the offense was able to put up points on short fields, on the backs of the D and special teams. We really miss Tyrann Mathieu, but our defense is still really good, just young and will improve. The offense was bad last season, but they didn't turn the ball over much at all, and we didn't have a LT problem. This year, the offense is bad, and is turning the ball over and putting our defense in terrible situations, which is why teams are scoring on us. We have been decimated with injuries and suspensions, and dismissal of Tyrann Mathieu.

All those combinations are really hard to overcome.

We understand that Les Miles doesn't literally control players' movements. But, his job is to lead the team and that he has not done. A team and its players are a direct reflection of the coach and one cannot deny that. Much of the speculation after the championship game must have been partially correct. The tension in the locker room must be unimaginable. It's bittersweet to observe several of the Les loyalists stating that they are nearly done with him. Obviously, I'm partly paraphrasing some of what I have read tonight.

Umm LSU is 5-0 and is 18-1 in its last 19 games right. You guys also realize that LSU has to lose eventually. We will not win every game. No team does, LSU is not as good as we had hoped so far. But these Les is an idiot thread make me giggle, we really don't understand how good it has been as an LSU crowd.... Lets fire les.. My friend is an Arkansas fan.. He laughs at how we beat our coach up and the man went 13-1 and won the sec championship. we had a stinker that one game, but lets face it bama was a better team that night... Sheesh.. I know we think LSU should win every game by 50 points but get some perpective. I fully expect LSU to lose next week. We are due and LSU has a target on its back. We have Been dishing out beatings the last couple of years... Tack on injuries and a qb that is not even close to what we had hoped and trouble is a brewin, but to blame miles for penalties and fumbles.. It's not like he coaches that.

I guess I am an miles apologist. I think firing the winningest coach in LSU history is well a really bad idea....

I mean I guess we could and become Ohio state or Texas or ou or Miami or Nebraska or bama when they sucked fumes... What coach would come here after the fan base ran off a coach who has won double digit games almost every year and has a nc and two sec championships....

If we play like we did last night, no one can disagree with that.

In my opinion, our main problem is at QB. His performance last night was the most disparaging thing about the game. When he is flushed out of the pocket or is forced to scramble, he literally seems lost. And with the way our line is playing, combined with wide receivers who are not getting separation from their defenders enough, he is going to get pummeled for negative yards, or turn it over.

Hate to say this, but I counted many times last night where JJ would have gained us some positive yards with his legs.

I do not think Mett is going to get us to where we want. Not with this OL. We need help at QB.

Maybe we need to start using Bolden in some series.
