The ability to coach up a player to fit within a scheme or for him to realize his potential makes a difference in what type of season a team has. This is true at every level.

Never was it more evident than this year with two first year starters at LSU and Alabama.

McElroy was coached up to manage the game and not lose it for his team. The reward? His team is playing in the NCG.

Jefferson was not coached up. The reward? His team is going to play in a a second tier bowl game behind the BCS games.

Granted some of it has to come from the players themselves but this was a clear case where NS and his coaches got the most out of their QB and we didn't.

Nick Saban is a helluva coach.

No one can deny that now.

Bama had an O-Line and a running game. We had neither.

I submit to the whole board that Saban is also smart enough to know where to coach. we hated him for going to our rivals and it did have alot to do with timing BUT, he has SEC talent and the whole country knows where the talent is.

He is a helluva coach but he knows where to get the most mileage from coaching. The SEC.

Tiger don't you think that comes down to coaching as well? This Oline was touted by CLM as the best he has seen. What happened? They didn't live up to expectations because they were not coached up to meet those expectations.

Did anyone see Alabama's Offensive Line?

I think that's where we need the most improvement.

As much as people want to hate on Jefferson, he never lost LSU a game, which you are implying.

He went 11-17 with 1 INT against Florida, not great.
He went 10-17 with 1 TD against Bama.
And he went 19-37 against Ole Miss with 2 TDs and 1 INT.

None of these performances lost the game.

You are very wrong in your sentiment. If LSU had a Heiman front-runner for a a RB, then yes, game management WOULD be good enough. The problem is that we cannot establish a running game, so LSU needed the defense/special teams to win games, which they did several times.

Also pointed out in this thread was the disappointing Oline. That also is coaching. Comments on that?

We don't need a Heisman calibur running back. We just need good ones, and we already have good RB's.

We need a nasty, physical, dominant offensive line. We need 5 guys up front that allow us to hand the ball to a tailback and get 4,5 or 6 yards anytime we want.
