I don’t think running is bad, but less risky handoffs would have been prudent. Handing off, leading the back into the line is pretty risky and a competent leadership team should know this. Other plays, where the QB takes the ball to the back, running parallel to line would appear much less prone to disruption.
Problem was with 1:39 left, FU still had one TO. If you run parallel, you don't run off enough clock, and you don't have a shot at a first down. I'm not in favor of leaving them any time on the clock. Runs result in more time off the clock, and if you get a first down, games over. Turnover is a possibility, admittedly, but I think most teams/coaches would have done something similar. I think the game commentators influenced opinions here.
To call somebody "inept" simply because you disagree with a viable choice is really unfair. Taking a knee might have left 10-12 seconds... time for a miracle pass and then maybe even a long FG attempt. So, as it stands, you weigh the probabilities: is it more probable that LSU will fumble and Florida will scoop it up and score, or that Franks could connect on a long pass? It's a valid choice, and hardly something to call somebody "inept" over.
