Was this team overrated the entire year? They seemed to lose to most good teams they faced, except for Georgia. Looking through the schedule against ranked teams (ranked at the time) these girls were 5-12 (5-13 assuming this last out is the end).
I don't get overly excited about softball but have pulled for the Lady Tigers since they started up the program. I would enjoy it more but it's so one dimensional as the pitcher rules the game. One dominant pitcher and an average team has a better chance than a loaded team with an average pitcher. The good news is we have a very good power hitter arriving next year and a dominant pitcher coming the year after. LSU may have a shot at a few CWS appearances and a national title over the next few years. With new baseball and softball parks opening, we shouldn't have any problem recruiting out of state players to compliment the quality we already have in Louisiana high schools. :geauxtige:tigbas::geauxtige
You are absolutely correct. In fact, there was talk about moving the rubber to 46 ft cause the pitching is so dominant and fans like to see hits. It's 43 ft now. 10U (10 and under) is 35 feet then 12U goes to 40 and it stays 40 until college. I understand what you mean but the SEC picks up a lot of players from California. I asked Emily Turner last year why/how there were so many quality players. She said for one thing, the weather allowed them to play year-around.
Good answer. Also, A LOT of people confuse that (illegal pitch) with a "Crow hop" where the picher's foot also leaves the ground but there's a "Re-planting of the foot". Pitchers, as a rule, should have a stride equal, in length, to their height. The best ones stride out to the edge of the pitchers' circle which his 8 feet from the rubber in all directions. The rule stops the pitcher from "Jumping" two feet, then pitching from a closer distance.
