UNC will be back in the mix...even if all of their absentee players get cut, that team that WE played was a top 25 team. It's WAAYYYY early to put any stock in any of these polls. Arkansas jumping us is a GOOD thing. If they stay ahead of us, our win against them will look that much more impressive. If we happen to lose, then their higher ranking will be justified. Just let it go. It's week one.
Unless Boise St dominates within it's own conference, the win over VT will not be enough to carry them to the BCS MNC. Should a 1 loss Big 10, SEC, or Big 12 be sitting up there in the polls Boise will get passed by again.
Maybe I missed it, which BCS Conf has invited Boise to do anything??? Why didn't PAC 10 take them...............you check their record against PAC 10 last few years??? How do you know they would lose 3 games based on what they have done??? Do you think anyone that matters would schedule them as an independent??? If so, what data proves your point??? Another point on this issue..............did the Big 12 recently go down to 10 schools??? Did they offer TCU...............did they even talk about it??? Did they offer any multitude of excuses why TCU would "not fit" their plans??? Big 12 keeps talking about the number of fans they draw to games. What is stadium cap at Baylor, KSU, Kansas, Iowa State, even Okie St and TT and Colorado have small stadiums compared to same size programs in SEC. Lastly, Boise and TCU will play ANY big school ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, the same can not be said about the elite of the BCS. That being said, LSU is the FIRST big time school to do a REAL HOME/HOME with TCU in 2013 and 2014................hope they keep the deal.:geauxtige
Should not OU be worried about why they could only beat Utah State by 7 points at home??? Then, worry about a VERY GOOD Florida State, IMO.
The bottom line is Boise doesn't get punched in the mouth week in and week out by physically imposing teams. Yeah, playing good teams at the beginning of the season before injuries and fatigue play a role is a decent barometer of how good your team's potential is. But try playing that same game at the end of the year in a conference like the SEC, where depth and fortitude are strained. Now I'm not saying Boise couldn't win in a BCS conference, but there is a huge difference pillow fighting with cupcakes and getting mauled by gorillas all season. IMO, Boise would be super lucky to go .500 in SEC play. And if they were smart, they wouldn't schedule top OOC teams either. For the record, I like TCU, Boise...not so much.
I think in the year before that they dropped something silly like 70 points on the first team they played. Probably wrong though. Doesn't matter, really.
You seem a bit emotional about this... I gave my opinion. I don't have data to prove my opinion, because it's my opinion. All it's based on is the fact that Boise State plays 2 reasonable teams and 10 crappy teams year in and year out. This year, they open with Virginia Tech, play Oregon State in a couple of weeks, and everything else is a regular conference's homecoming game. Nevada? Utah State? Hawaii? New Mexico State? etc. etc. etc. When LSU schedules two of these teams, the nation groans - despite playing Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi every year - plus teams like South Carolina and Tennessee. So I'm supposed to respect a team that plays TEN of those teams EVERY YEAR? Forget it. Boise State doesn't deserve to be in the national championship picture because their schedule does not compare to the BCS schools schedules. Again - it's like playing Varsity football against freshmen teams, then gutting out a couple of varsity games, and calling yourself undefeated. Whatever. To win the big trophy, play big teams in more than 2 games. To do that - change conferences or become an independent and schedule big teams. I guarantee plenty of BCS schools would schedule home-home, and lose a bit of the gate, just to play Boise State. Do you think for a second Boise State (or TCU) wants into a bigger conference? Has Boise State or TCU had a serious discussion with a big conference about joining? Like a discussion about building a bigger stadium? Or some other revenue sharing deal that would make the move feasible? They won't do it because they like being undefeated every damned year. Which is fine. But their undefeated is not the same as Bama's undefeated - not even close. And yes - it does matter. Just because Boise State can lick it's wounds and heal up enough to give a BCS school a tough game in the bowl matchup doesn't mean they'll be able to do that for 13 weeks prior to that. I don't think they would be able to do it. I think, with LSU's schedule, Boise State loses to Bama, Florida, maybe Auburn, probably Arkansas. Because by the time they get to Arkansas - they're a lot more depleted of talent and depth than any other SEC school except maybe Vandy. They can coach up 22-30 pretty good. But everyone behind that - in my opinion - is a big drop off - just look at their rosters. Much bigger dropoff than any SEC team (except Vandy, maybe). As for TCU - same game, just without the blue turf. Same kind of schedule, same kind of issues. Just replace Boise State with TCU and my opinion is exactly the same.
