You haven't seen Notre Dame play this year have you? :hihi: Va. Tech would be the best D. Mizzzou has faced all year.
Their defense, I don't believe, is any better than OU's. OU plays tougher offenses in the Big 12 and has given up 312 yard per game and 16.8 pts versus V-Tech giving up 297 yards per game and 15 pts. Thus, V-Tech's D is better "marginally" at best. MU scored 31 against OU in Norman.
You mean the Defense that gave up 450 yards to Baylor? You know Baylor, the team ranked in the high 80's in offense? Of the teams on Va Tech's schedule, only North Carolina and Duke rank worse. Neither team sniffed 400. Duke didn't even get 200. Va Tech only gave up 380+ yards twice, both against teams in the top 40 in total offense (LSU #19, Clemson #36) Twice, OU has given up 380 plus to teams ranked 80th or worse in total offense.
I'm not going to look at one game to come to a conclusion. OU can simply outscore a team like Baylor and probably weren't to fired up for that game. V-Tech can't take anybody lightly because they are a simply awful offensive team. Regardless, as a whole, the OU defense has pretty much been on par with V-Tech.
Yeah, giving up 534 yards to Ole Miss (their season high BY FAR) is blowing them out completely. Giving up over 225 rushing to Green-Ellis (his season high BY FAR), is really dominating. Oh, and don't forget Seth Adams 1st career 300 yard passing game.
1. I was at the game. Mizzou led 35-7. It was a blowout and never in doubt. Ole Miss got tons of yards and points in garbage time. They gave Florida a MUCH TOUGHER game the following week. Again, I was at the game -- you weren't and it wasn't televised, thus you have no feel for how it went. Trust me, Ole Miss didn't belong on the same field. Again, this is provoked, as I don't think beating Ole Miss is something to brag about. We crushed Ole Miss last year 35-7 in Columbia. Beating Illinois, on the other hand, turned out to be a much better victory than any Mizzou fan expected. MU led that game 37-13 in the 3rd quarter but Illinois rallied furiously late.... we just didn't know they were a good team at the time. Illinois is actually bringing in high quality athletes unlike much of the Big 10 (which I find to be an eroding conference full of slow athletes). 2. MU's defense was pretty weak/inexperienced to start the season. The optimistic view was that this was a VERY YOUNG defense and it would progress over the course of the season.... and man, were they right. I didn't believe it as Mizzou looked extremely vulnerable vs Illinois, Ole Miss, W Michigan and IAA Illinois St. Going into last week, the MU defense was #1 in the Big 12 since conference play started. Scoring defense and yardage defense. The defense has dramatically improved since the seasons first month and has completely stifled the competition in it's perceived tougher, bigger games.
Back around here.. At the very least, MU looked every bit as impressive as LSU in Oxford. I think MU has a chance to crush KU this weekend. Not saying it will happen, but a lot of people (including some experts).. feel that this is very possible.
Can you now come to the conclusion that the OU defense is not all that? To compare them against VTech was not so good an idea. And VTech's offense is not that bad anymore (in fact its pretty good). Glennon is playing much better now that he has gotten experience under his belt. If Vtech plays BC (and it looks like they could if VTech beats Virginia), Vtech will wax dat ass.
The sportscasters must be really dumb. Once again I heard one say last night that LSU plays in Arkansas. Don't they read the schedules?
Maybe they weren't so dumb. Mizzou dominated KU, even with awful officiating. The game wasn't near as close as the score.
