It's been bad but it seems to have really gotten much worse the past few years. I guess success will do that. Regardless, it's gotten to the point where I have to seriously consider going when LSU plays a crappy team, especially with the type of football LSU has played this year.
I say good riddance! I'd rather be sitting with 67,000 rabid fans than 91,000 bored ones who spend the game either on the phone, whining about every single play, texting a novel, or getting so much food for his whinny kids that I thought he was a waiter. (All 4 of those happened around me last night. I got so fed up, I spent most of the second half standing in the concourse eating jambalaya.)
Everyone should do like I do - use the opportunity to take a kid to a game. Most kids don't even have a chance to see TS for a game. They don't care who the opponent is, they are just thrilled to be there. I took my 4 year old daughter this time. I knew she may not last past halftime, so I picked a game that I wouldn't mind leaving early if I had to. Surely most people have neighbors or coworkers that have a kid who would love to see a game.
On the radio that said it was a pretty big crowd. I'm guessing it was much more than just 70,000. Where did that number come from anyway?
I saw maybe 20 Tulane fans at the game. I'm sure there were a few more but I doubt it was more than 1,000. They don't put more than a few thousand in the Dome for home games and many of those "fans" can't stand the thought of going to Baton Rouge to watch their team get beat. I wish we could cancel this 10-year contract. We try to help their program and they don't even bother to show up. Tulane should cease football operations.
The crowd was not bad for a meaningless(seemingly) Tulane game, but I was surprised with it being a night game and great weather, that more people did not go. No the team did not play 'exciting" football, but the crowd was one of the most sedate I have ever seen at TS. Felt like a La. Tech game. Borderline embarrassing. I am also not a fan of people leaving early in the 3rd quarter, but to the fans that chose to boo our qb while he was getting laid out in the dirt - you are always welcome to not even show up. It would help if our scheduling improved.
As for the reasons the attendance was low, I have no answer. The reasons of few Tulane fans, the economy, unimportant game all sound like good resons. Now to address the remarks made by JayB, I agree totally. Due to several reasons there are many fans that going to an LSU game is an honor and to be cherished. When you can only attend a few games a yr, or less, for whatever the reason. You flavor the moment and glow in the experience. My how times have changed for some LSU fans. I guess some have forgotten that winning 8-9 games per season was a gift. Calling LSU football boring and unispiring, hm, I guess some of us have gotten a bit spoiled and are starting to take things for granted. Well, I guess once you've tasted the sweetness of the apple it is hard to taste anything less. Remember it could all be gone tomorrow, and we could be a Tenn or Aub. Love while we have it, no matter what we are looking like to keep it. GEAUX TIGERS yes it can be frustrating, but I would rather be frustrated and a Tiger than anything else.
