Will be 9 total if we win BCS CG. Gotta be a record. Two #3s so far. Need to beat ranked team number 8, UGA, then take on the a #2 again. "No doubt" should be our motto this year!

The 2001 Miami Hurricanes are widely regarded as one of the best teams of all time.

So here is their schedule and results:

    33-7 @Penn St (5-6)
    61-0 Rutgers (2-9)
    43-21 @Pittsburgh (7-5)
    38-7 Troy State (7-4)
49-27 @Florida State (8-4) with Gator Bowl win
    45-3 West Virginia (3-8)
    38-0 Temple (4-7)
18-7 @Boston College (8-4) with Music City Bowl win
59-0 Syracuse (9-3) with an Insight.Com Bowl win
65-7 Washington (7-4) with a Holiday Bowl loss
    26-24 @Virginia Tech (8-4) with a Gator Bowl loss
37-14 Nebraska (11-1) BCS CG Rose Bowl (lost to Colorado 62-36 to end season and back into the BCS CG)

    Miami's SOS 68-58 = .539 (does not count Nebraska)

    Offense 42.8 ppg
    Defense 9.8 ppg

    LSU's SOS 80-52 = .606 (counts Georgia)

    Offense 38.2 ppg
    Defense 10.6 ppg

From what I have read, it seems the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners have the toughest modern day schedule on way to an undefeated NC season, if you go by just ranked teams (as opposed to how you have it broken down above w/winning percentages determining SOS, which is a respectable way to look at it, too).
Their schedule and results were as follows. Apparently, they were the only team to beat #1 and #2 ranked opponents two weeks in a row.

    2000 Results (13-0 Overall, 8-0 Big 12)
    09/02 - (19) Oklahoma 55, UTEP 14
    09/09 - (20) Oklahoma 45, Arkansas State 7
    09/23 - (17) Oklahoma 42, Rice 14
    09/30 - (14) Oklahoma 34, Kansas 16
    10/07 - (11) Oklahoma 63, (10) Texas 14
    10/14 - (8) Oklahoma 41, (2) Kansas State 31
    10/28 - (3) Oklahoma 31, (1) Nebraska 14
    11/04 - (1) Oklahoma 56, Baylor 7
    11/11 - (1) Oklahoma 35, (23) Texas A&M 31
    11/18 - (1) Oklahoma 27, Texas Tech 13
    11/25 - (1) Oklahoma 12, Oklahoma State 7
    12/02 - (1) Oklahoma 27, (8) Kansas State 24 (a)
    01/03 - (1) Oklahoma 13, (3) Florida State 2 (b)

Pretty impressive record, I must say. They beat 6 ranked teams that season, including the NCG. We have already beaten 7, and have 2 more to go.

But look at how many close games they had.

We had 1. They had at a minimum 3 and maybe 4, before they played their NC game.

Oh, our schedule is more impressive, for sure. They did not get any tough opponents until game 5 or so. We began the season with the #3 ranked team!
