All of this brings me back to my stats as to why I believe the team should have built on Jarret Lee's momentum. In 2008 .... Primary Starter Jarret Lee passed for 14 TDs, avg 170 yrds/game, Jefferson passed for 4 TDs, Hatch passed for two and K Williams passed for one. In 2009 .... Primary Starter J. Jefferson passed for 5 TDs, Lee passed for 1 TD. Being as 2010 was the same approach and mentality as 2009, and Jefferson was the primary starter .... why on earth are you people suprised that we only threw for 7 TDs??? Heck .. we only threw for a total of 6 last year, which I guess means this year was an improvement .... sorta. Unless J. Jefferson can become a valid pass threat, and play as a valid pass threat, and the coaching staff uses that valid pass threat, LSU will not win the tamale. Lee proved in 2008 that he was definitely a pass threat ... he just needed more experience in reading defenses to avoid interceptions. Now that he has that, the Coaches don't want to give him a chance. Like Izzy says .. it is a testimony and an indictment of the coaching.
Jordan threw 17 TDs and 7 INT in 2009, dude. Nice try, though. Lee has 17 TD in 398 attempts or 1 in every 23.4 attempts. Jefferson has 25 TD in 559 attempts or 1 in every 22.36 attempts. This is just passing and doesn't account for Jefferson's 8 rushing TD to Lee's 0.
Statistically it's a wash with Jefferson's far greater number of attempts. Lee supporters will counter that with the same number of snaps he could've had far more passing TDs. Regardless, the passing game numbers are equally bad for both QBs.
It's pretty obvious that neither QB is the answer for us. Lee only seemed to get less effective the more he saw the field this year. I believe his early success was mostly based on the fact that defenses were not prepared for the differences in the way Crowton called plays when Lee came in, but once they adjusted he became less effective than Jefferson, yet again.
Crowton's trademark: predictable playcalling. It's part of the reason I think a real QB coach could make something out of Lee if we're going to a power-running, pocket-passing offense. After 3 seasons I think we've seen Jefferson hit his ceiling in terms of pocket awareness and decision-making. He can be used as a change-of-pace QB with our other running options on the field, but not as an every-down QB, particularly against good defenses.
Even my wife, who is a football fan but is no X's and O's guru, has noticed that the vertical passing game goes away in favor of quick outs and WR screens when Lee comes in. Trust me, I don't think it's a conincidence that we have 2 4 star QBs who are useless. I think that points to the OC/QB Coach. The question really is whether or not they are too far gone to fix. I think new blood is probably going to be neccessary both in the booth and on the field.
Y ... my bad ... read the table wrong. OK .. they both suck. I say we just cancel LSU's season next year. ..... or ... me also being a Hog's fan [living in AR and all] ... I guess I can just root for the Hogs ... cause I can't stomach another squandered season like we had this year .... even though we did miraculously end up 10-2. Arky will be strong next year ... Wilson is every bit as good as Mallet .. and Davis has brought a new dimension to the Arky run game. As long as Jefferson is the QB next year, I can go on ahead and place my bet now that Arky is going to spank LSU.
