LSU is headed for a "not what we had in mind bowl" this year. Great stuff. The Tigers will play again after the regular season lights are turned out. With everything that is going on, I don't have any heartburn about that. It's a nice statistic to pin on the wall. An opportunity to play for victory one more time. An opportunity to watch this team once more before the long wait for 2015 begins. Since this is not going to be "The Year " I don't have any problem with losing our last two games if we are making the types of moves that are positioning this team for long term growth. Harris should be back there taking his lumps, gaining experience and building rapport with his team. Get the timing down, allow this fantastic group of receivers to synch up with what should be our future QB. Jennings has reached his ceiling and it's not too far above Harris' floor. Once again the QB position is Miles' Achilles Heel. Outside of our run with Zach Mettenberger, Miles has really not done a good job at all with the position. In the absence of some Heisman level QB who is secretly waiting to join the Tigers, you need to develop the best talent you have and get them on the field now. Accept the reality that it's not going to happen in 2014 and it's never going to happen with Jennings. Unfortunately, coaching incentives are for win now. They don't get a bonus this year for winning it all next year. Coupled with Miles' loyalty to his players and his staff, and you get where we are today. Jennings is your QB and we will have to wait it out till next year when the competition for the position will reopen. And it won't be a balanced competition because one of these players will have almost a full season under his belt. Harris has his work cut out for him this off season if he wants to be The Man. A task that would be a little easier if the Boy was put through the trials and challenges that allow him to grow up. One that would probably cost the Tigers one or two games at the end of a rebuilding season. I don't think it's a bad thing if this team ends up at the Grandma's Apple Pie Bowl. No one on that team would ever want to end up there again. This talent combined with a fire and a purpose can win Championships. Jennings is in the way. Unleash this team with the talent of the future and get ready for 2015. I'd give up 2 losses in 2014 for zero losses in 2015.
Who says that we will lose 2 games by doing what you've stated? I think we can make the change and still win.
Absolutely right. I didn't intend to paint a one sided picture there. That kind of result would really propel Harris into next season and likely make Miles' decision unavoidable. Nothing he would be able to hide behind if this team caught fire under Harris and won 2 regular season games and their bowl game to finish the season. No risk no reward. Go all in and let it ride. I'd rather see that.
Only way Harris comes off the bench the rest of the season is if we're up by 3 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. And that ain't happening, especially not tonight. Get ready for at least two more post-game presser "the opportunity never presented itself" answers.
This thread topic is absurd. Ask our Tigers if they want to sacrifice the last two games to watch a QB battle unfold. I'll bet the answer is that they want to win, to win now.
