You defended Brady until AFTER the end. As much as I wanted him gone, I still hoped that Reynolds and Arthur would come to school because it meant that LSU would be winning basketball games. The same sentiment goes for Coleman and any other recruit. We need post help badly for next year. As always, we'll mostly agree to disagree. I just think a 20 point loss is unforgivable.
After that performance...Miles has to go !!! There were no adjustments, no plan B, and dissension in the locker room at the half. Jefferson also tweeted that he should have started.
You must be in the alternate universe where Trent went 16 and 0 in the league including a tournament championship prior to this loss. Oh yeah... St. Tammany
Glad I didn't stay up to watch that... Turned it off when it was 45-25. At least we made a postseason tourney; maybe there's hope for next year. As always, :geauxtige
A couple of parting shots! So, here goes. I'll try to keep it simple, b/c I think the general masses are tired of my postings. You brought up performance and firing the coach, so I'll keep it simple. Name me any college school that is firing its coach after that coach didn't make the post season the year before, and made it now. Period, end of story. You said you'd love to work for me, I guess I'd flip it around and say that noone would want to work for you. If we can all agree that no school would in their right mind fire a coach that is clearly making his program better, as measured by post-season play (which should be the standard of all good bball programs), why are we still talking about firing? Sure, we can talk about firing if the program is declining, but here, I don't get it. And, to clear the record, I defended Brady during most of his coaching days, because he seemed to surprise folks at times. During the last two years, and certainly the last, I was supporting a new hire. I supported Trent when he was hired, but also threw out plenty of other names that we could go after. I don't think I was supporting Brady AFTER he was hired, unless it was to make a point about how crazy LSU basketball fans are. Lastly, a 20 point loss is unacceptable? Disappointing, yes. But, one game shouldn't get you to fire a coach. Look at the body of work over a season. So, if a 20 point loss should get Trent fired, well a win over #10 Marquette should get him a 5 year extension? Case in point: Dale Brown lost by 20 vs Louisville in 1980 in the NCAA tourney when LSU was the higher ranked (#3) team. Dale Brown lost to TULANE in the NIT in 1982 by 11. Dale Brown lost to Navy by 23 in 1985 in the first round of the NCAA. John Brady lost by 24 to Purdue in the first round of the NCAA in 2003. We should have fired both of 'em! Btw, Dale brown went to the final four in 1981, he went to the final four in 1986. Brady... well, he was rebuilding (seriously, he went to the post season the next 3 years... two first round exits in the NIT & NCAA and then a NCAA final four). I think after it all, we turn our attention to recruiting, recruiting, and recruiting. Certainly, as you say, the post Final Four (2006) years of recruiting were key for Brady, and when the local talent (outside of the gang of BR brothers) dried up, we saw what Brady could really do recruiting wise (as we're seeing at Ark St now). I think there were a lot of factors weighing against Brady that Trent at least gives you (national respectability, he doesn't offend you, he does stuff in the community, and he's graduating his kids). I would certainly agree with you that the next few years of recruiting by Trent and staff will either lead to a long LSU stint or a shorter one for him and his staff though. So, let's stay positive and support the program! :geauxtige
Ultimately, we just need more able bodies. Stringer just doesn't have the size or consistency shooting to be playing as many minutes as he's been asked to, especially at the 2. Hickey really did not play well and was way too careless with the ball, but I think he will be ok. He seems to have the talent. We really need another 2 players to fill some combination of 3/4/5. I'd like to see Stringer come off the bench as a 1/2 role player, with Turner and Morgan splitting time at the 2. There were a few positives to take from the game, though. Hamilton finally put another good performance on the floor, and JOB played well, also. I especially like seeing them both hitting FTs. They have got to be threats from the line, or they will never good clean shots. Turner had a very good game shooting the ball. The defense left a lot to be desired, but some of it was just Oregon hitting good shots. Other times, though, they were getting good, uncontested shots, or driving through the entire defense.
Thanks for the congrats. watson, an important win for a rebuilding Duck's team, and against a big name opponent too. Your Tigers have good young talent, they caught Oregon on a good shooting night. I can't keep from looking forward to football, LSU and the Ducks are gonna be right up there,.. and both with new QBs. Getting ahead of myself though, Oregon Spring practices don't even start until April 16th. :nope:
