Close losses are so frustrating, a few plays made the difference. Does ANY Lady Tiger player know how to fake a shot, and when the other player flies at her, dribble into her path, THEN shoot? You get fouled, maybe the basket too. Plus they get in foul trouble. Do that once or twice they stop jumping at you and you can shoot. As to our last chance down by 3, 3 or 4 players can make a 3 pointer. Why not pretend to run a play for Chaney, and get it to one of the others for at least a good look at a 3. But nooooooooo, Chaney ends up launching an off balance prayer. Game over. Gino was laughing about that after "gee I thought Chaney might get the ball". Erica White didn't play her game like she did at Tenn. Like last year though, I'll give UConn this win, if we beat them later in the tournament. Oh yeah, Maya Moore is sick!
Say what you may the people at the game said it was a passionate and loud crowd! A ton of fun had by all and the alternating purple and gold looked GREAT!! It was a good crowd and looked great on national tv.
It was fun. Without lookin at the stats/numbers I would say that poor shot selection/sloppy shooting cost them. This game was winnable, the Lady Tigers beat themselves. This team can make a run in the Dance.
I thought this was a real Heavyweight fight. The Lady Tigers just couldn't make enough plays in the last couple of minutes. My hat goes off to UConn. Last night, they were the better team and deserving of that #1 Ranking. I would not be surprised if these 2 teams met again in the Final Four or even in the NC game. I think LSU can still earn a #1 seed in the tourney, but they have to win out and beat Tenn in the SECCG. Otherwise, they'll probably end up a #2 seed, which is still a great seed in the women's tournament. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
Hopefully they don't drop LSU in the polls, but my guess is we will drop to #7 or maybe #8. Will be tough to get a #1 seed, but if we beat Tennessee in the tourney, we need to be ranked higher than the Vols, and thus probably a #1 seed.
Sadly, LSU will need help from other teams to get a #1 seed. It may not even be possible, depending on how the top teams do. UConn is #1 overall, with Rutgers, UNC, and Tennessee probably getting the other three at the moment. UConn needs to beat Rutgers (regular season), and Rutgers cannot win the BE tourney. That should put LSU above Rutgers, assuming LSU wins the tourney. Even if LSU beats Tennessee again, I still think the brackets put Tennessee as a #1 seed, based on reputation... That loss to MTSU really destroys this team's resume, in comparison to the other top teams. LSU will not get the credit they deserve if they go through the SEC undefeated.
Is there THAT much difference between a #1 and a #2 seeding? Either way, theoretically, we have to beat the best in our bracket to advance and we wouldn't see the "#1 team" til the quarter-finals anyway.
The Elite Eight is almost a given for this team as a #1 seed, but as a #2, the Sweet Sixteen game changes from a Utah/Kansas State to a Stanford/Duke type game. For women, in the past 4 years, only 3 #1 seeds have lost before the Elite 8. In the same period, 8 #2 seeds lost before the Elite 8, so half never even made it that far.
