9-4... 8-5... funny how LSU's record is beginning to look very similar to the 2001-2004 OkSU records... food for thought...
JS, Seriously, what is the metric that a head coach should be judged by? Is it not wins? People like to repeat the famous Vince Lombardi quote: "Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing." Miles is being judged by people around here simply because he is not Nick Saban and Saban is now at Alabama. Miles' worst year was an 8 win season, which he only had one season that "bad". Saban at LSU had two seasons that bad. The minute you start challenging the Miles haters with win-loss records, their argument then changes to other things like "not coaching up talent", "lack of team disciplne", "poor clock management", "losing to inferior opponents", etc. (Even the great Saban gets beat by teams like University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of Lousiana at Monroe.) I have been a Tiger fan as long as I have memories. LSU football was on the radio in my parents house every Saturday night they played. There was no cable TV back then, so it was a rare event when LSU was on TV. To hear the way Saban fans talk, every 4 or 5 star recruit Saban ever had became an NFL 1st rounder and perennial Pro Bowl player. What percentage of Saban's top recruits went on to become All-Americans and NFL players that made the Pro Bowl? If you are going to make these arguments and blanket statements about Miles, please be sure and apply the same judging standards to your beloved, Saban. Miles is not perfect and no one who gets accused of being a "sunshine pumper" is saying he is perfect. LSU fans have always expected too much and almost all of the post-Cholly Mac blandness that was LSU football can have the blame laid right at the doorstep of LSU boosters who could never be satisfied and worked behind the scenes to get coaches fired because LSU deserved better. Miles is not perfect but until he puts out successive break even seasons, he isn't (and shouldn't) be going anywhere.
Your wrong....people are not judging Miles by his wins or loses he is being judge by the shape and condition of his team. There was no progression from the Washington Game to the Penn St game and that is the major problem that anyone that watches football has with Les Miles! This isnt the NFL were a team can go from worse to first by making some offseason moves and having a great draft. In college something that happens this year effects what happens 5 years from now. And the steady downward progression that the 08 and 09 LSU teams have seen may not have a direct effect next year but what happens when the 5 star recruits start entertaining other school...so when those guys are suppose to be lighting up the field as juniors and seniors they are doing so elsewhere. You dont think that some high school kid and their parents arent watching LSU games and listening to the commentators and then reading news reports in which all of them are asking the question, "Where is Russell Shepard?" What is Miles gonna say then? And speaking of RS this kid came to LSU in Januray before anyone else....was quote in the local papers as saying "I want to help this team NOW, I dont want to redshirt, I want to play...WHEREEVER I can...defense, running back, and even special teams..I just want to HELP LSU WIN" And where was he this season??? We saw flashes of what he could do when giving the chance....but it was our coaches that thought otherwise...so HOW IS ANY recruit gonna believe any of our coachs when they say "Yeah sure you will get playing time as a freshman if you come to our school" The impact of Miles is gonna be felt LONG AFTER he is gone if something is not done soon!!!! Curly Hallman was a recruit...that guy could convince an Eskimo to buy ice but could not coach for sh!t! I dont think Miles is on Hallmans level but that is the direction that this program is starting to slip. I sat through those games through him and through the GD era...I remember when the fights in the stands were more fun to watch then the game on the field....this program has come to far to slip back down with the Mississippi St and Kentucky of the SEC and that I am afraid is what is happening.
Can't argue with this. Your point is well taken. I just wish you would share how you really feel :hihi: Seriously, I cannot disagree with your concerns. I have them, too, but really am trying to remain solid in supporting CLM as long as he is trying to improve the glaring problems on offense. No one is perfect, and your criticism about how they have handled RS is justified, and you are supporting it very well, but CLM brings a lot of positives, too. The defense sucked after Bo left, but we have gone back in the right direction, albeit bend but don't break. Hopefully, the offense will improve. I was one of the first to disagree with the "genius" labeling of CGC, even created threads about it last year, so I am with you regarding your concerns. Just think he needs to have the right coordinators on both sides of the ball, and then CLMs CEOship will seem better to all us - and, the program will be run clean and with class that we can all be proud of.
I would not be surprised by 1-3 loses before the Florida game next year if LSU keeps Crowton. 9-4 will look very good if the offense does what it did this year, next year. You are not going to out talent all these teams next year which is what LSU has been doing. Sept. 4 North Carolina Atlanta, Ga. Sept. 11 Vanderbilt Nashville, Tenn. Sept. 18 Mississippi State Baton Rouge Sept. 25 West Virginia Baton Rouge Oct. 2 Tennessee Baton Rouge Oct. 9 Florida Gainesville, Fla. Oct. 16 McNeese State Baton Rouge Oct. 23 Auburn Auburn, Ala. Nov. 6 Alabama Baton Rouge Nov. 13 Louisiana-Monroe Baton Rouge Nov. 20 Ole Miss Baton Rouge Nov. 27 Arkansas Little Rock, Ark.
Besides McNeese and ULM I can't look at any other game as a sure win. Considering we are 1-6 in the last 7 games against ranked teams and finished this year without a victory against any team that will finish ranked that schedule looks very difficult.
agree with your synopsis here, but the flip is that all four of LSUs losses this year were extremely close games, each of which we certainly had a chance of winning, and every one of those teams at one point in the season was ranked in the top 5, including Ole Piss (started the year in the top 5). when you look at that way, LSU had a chance to be 13-0 against quality opposition:lol: next years schedule is certainly tougher top to bottom, though.
but you can't forget the last second wins and OT win against ark, we could also have easily been 7-6 but in the end at lest we ended up 9-4, thats still a decent season in my book.
How can you say that? According to many on this board, next year is our year. We won't have a young QB with very little to no experience. We should win em all next year by their standards!
I thought we were going to contend for atleast the West this season, with a possible shot at the Sugar since our offense last year was good enough with the defense we had this year to have gone to a BCS bowl. Who'da thunk we'd have offensive problems with the Chik bowl showing we gave last season. After having defensive issues in '08, offensive issues in '09... one would have to think we'll bring it all together next season.
