This. @red55 is making a big deal about leaving a Soldier behind. If he would take the time to watch the video I posted and hear what his former team members had to say he might understand. When you leave all your shit behind and low crawl out of the OP to go meet with the enemy you are no longer one of us and very much one of them. THAT means he is dog shit and doesn't deserve anything but hot lead.
So you don't think living 5 years in captivity is any kind of punishment? Not knowing if today is the day your head gets separated from your shoulders?
He wasn't in custody. He was able to move freely about the village. He sought them out and joined them. If they wanted to kill him he would've been a YouTube star years ago.
And you know this how? Eventually the real story is going to come out. I'll save my judgement until that time.
Yes of course, if it is captivity. This clown was yucking it up with the taliban, shooting AK's, sitting around the fire drinking chi and eating falafels. Hell, they made him a brand new goat herder suit for his trip to America. Please bro, do not ever associate this shit bag with a prisoner of war ever. He is a traitor and was right where he wanted to be.
I understand your anger at what you have heard. But you haven't heard everything (including him) and seen the evidence that a review and court martial would. What I don't understand is not giving him due process and a chance to face his accusers, explain himself, and take his punishment if convicted.
You're a liberal so I understand your POV. I am not. His due process was for him to do his freaking tour, ride out his contract and then say adios to the US Army like a man. If you watched the video on the link I posted you would have seen that his former team members said he wanted to bring more fight to the enemy. That doesn't make much sense but whatever. In the end, it was HIS decision to leave his OP. No one forced him, he wasn't captured while out on patrol or because some procedure that was in place broke down. This wasn't a result of anything we as a country or a military did or failed to do. That Amigo is his due process. When he left he became one of them and I really don't give a shit what he has to say. I have READ what he has written as well as that of his dad. I KNOW that he crawled his sorry ass out of his OP and I KNOW that 6 people died looking for him. That is quite enough for me to make an informed decision
I'm a moderate. And you seem to be saying that conservatives see no need for the American legal and moral system that is being fought for over there. No innocence until proven guilty. No right to face his accusers. I got it. And I'm not surprised at all.
Incorrect, I'm not speaking from any political platform or base. The American legal system is reserved for citizens of the United States, not illegal immigrants, terrorist, or turn coat traitor bastards that crawl off of the their military post like a snake in the grass. I can't be any more clear than that. In my eyes, this piece of shit is no longer an American and should not be afforded the rights, especially the right for some even lower life form to come in and try to plead for his ass in a court of law. It is shameful. He did this intentionally to use himself as bait so that the United States would trade his muslim friends back for his hide. It worked. They should have just left his ass there.
There are plenty of witnesses who saw him in open air markets unaccompanied just outside the Haqqani compound in Pakistan. I am quite sure the US gov't was one of those witnesses. And gyver is correct. If they had wanted to kill him, they would have. They only trotted him out on occasion when they were attempting to negotiate. The last tape came out in January with the usual bullshit about "we'll cut his head off". Please. He was useless in terms of intel and gitmo prisoners are going to be released eventually so clearly it was a bluff. The only worth to them, at this point in time, is a moral victory, 5 terrorists, and they have both. And if you think the real story is ever going to come out, then I don't know what to say.
