Going back on Rivals to 2002 the most 5* players we have landed in a year has been 3. Here is the list. 2002 and 2003 Justin Vincent 2004 Xavier Carter, Early Doucet, Claude Wroten 2005 Perrilloux 2006 Keiland Williams, Al Woods 2007 Chad Jones, Terrance Toliver Hopefully we can land more than 3 this year and surpass our old mark. The majority of the above players made an impact, helped us win championships, and yes, contributed more than the average 3* or 4* recruit.
I don't think there's any question that we land more than 3 five stars. We're currently sitting at three with one more of our four star players (Michael Ford) almost certain to gain his fifth star, as he has already on Scout.com. We're sitting in good position for at least two or three more five star players. It will be a record number 5 stars and more than likely the best recruiting class in LSU history.
Fixed it for ya. I am as excited as the next person, but 3-4 years from now will tell the tale.
That's all we're talking here is star ratings. Whether they pan out or not is another story, but this more than likely will be our best class per rivals rating system.
Best case: 9 Randle Shepard Jackson McFarland or Fluker or Richardson or Jenkins Loston Debose Davenport Ford Benton McFarland would obviously be the "surprise" of the class. Fluker would be another surprise, although both of these appear to be long long shots. But we shall see with McFarland, as his recruiting situation is getting more dysfunctional every day. Most realistic: 6 Randle or Debose Shepard Jackson Loston Davenport Ford or Benton Ford needs a bump, and I would be disappointed if he isn't elevated to 5 star. Also, there is question as to whether Benton will count. The rule that is usually followed is if a player is "recruitable" and signs an LOI, he counts. So I fully expect him to count. Debose is not a lock and for certain Randle isn't. So I counted only one of those as well. That still gives us 6. This should put us either #1 or #2, fighting it out with USC. It will be very close. USC will definitely get a 5th player with 5 stars, the question is do they get a 6th? Bama should finish third. Even Richardson and Jenkins are not totally out of the question, as long a shot as they appear to be.
