USCvball is the only one that could make USC's rb situation sound like it is held together with duct tape and a prayer and sound believable. However, I still don't believe it.
Obviously, things can still turn on a dime as it's very much still early in recruiting--specifically with blue chippers, but if there were any doubt that we were already "on the outside looking in" with reguards to Darrell Scott, then his latest comments should bring it to the foreground. While he did list LSU among his current top 8, he stated that of his official visits, that he's certainly going to visit Colorado (as his uncle is a freshman there--sounds wierd that he has a freshman "uncle"--but not uncommon...) and the other visits he mentioned were: Florida (the Gators are in need of a true well-rounded running back), UCLA (another year like 2006 for the Bruins--especially if they upset USC again, goes a LONG way in their recruiting), Florida State and Texas (both could benefit Scott and vice versa). Doesn't leave much "wiggle room" for us to get an official from him, and while I understand that you don't nec. NEED to get an official visit for a recruit to commit, it's almost unheard of to get one from a player that has never visted (officially or unofficially), and it would seem to me that it's unlikely a player would fly across the country on his own dime...
Agree that it's unlikely but not unheard of. Patrick Johnson and his dad flew out to Cali on their own dime even after he'd already committed to the U. Don't count CLM out yet in securing a visit. ucla may have a recruiting implosion due to the eric scott situation.
Eric Scott was hired by Dorell to replace DJ McCarthy. Scott played at ucla and was the coach at Crenshaw H.S. in the hood so to speak. He's been funneling kids to ucla for years. He's also been in legal trouble for years including 2 convictions involving concealed weapons which were apparently overlooked when he was hired by the state of California to coach at ucla (tons of finger pointing going on now). Dorrell even admitted he knew of Eric's problems (in all fairness he lost 2 brothers to gang violence). A few weeks ago he was arrested for theft as he waited in his Mercedes while two "friends" of his stole property out of a drug house. Charges have been dropped (nobody would testify) and ucla has re-instated him but some significant damage has been done. There's only one reason why someone from that area carries a concealed weapon and it's not to steal any of SC's recruits. The story coming out is that he never broke his gang ties and that the theft was an attempt to collect/recover a $5k debt owed him by the home's renter. I have no idea if that's accurate or not and for his personal sake I hope the event was a wakeup call to turn his life around.
How right you are. While I still don't believe Scott will consider USC, the rumors should begin to swirl about that possibility with the departure of RB Emmanuel Moody to Okie St.
I see your optimisim, but those are still "just rumors" and I can't see where there would actually be any truth to them...and IMO, quite frankly, if I were you, I wouldn't want to see him commit to USC. Reason? You guys are 9-deep at the RB depth chart and even WITH the departure of Moody, still have 6 former Blue Chip recruits in the backfield. If I were a USC fan, I'd prefer seeing that vacated scolarship go to a player from a position that isn't as deep or even simply needs a starter/contributor the next season or the year after. Case in point (and I know you have about 4 commitments in this year's class at OL), but USC, in the past two classes had 7 running back commitments to only 3 along the O-line. Getting those Blue Chip skill guys is what every fan--especially the average fan--likes to see. But you can have all the running backs and skill guys you want, but you are limited to how many of them you can have on the field and you still need the talent to block for them.
I really don't have optimism and it would be fine with me if he went elsewhere but the rumors did show up today on several boards. The number started at 10. Coleman and now Moody have left. Marc Tyler will redshirt. Dennis is working on a 6th year (medical reshirt) and has sat out for over a week with another injury. Green and McKnight have never played a down of college football. Bradford got moved around several times last season and never settled at RB or learned the offense from that perspective. That leaves Washington, Johnson, and Gable as the only horses with any experience. All of a sudden, that spot doesn't look so stacked. Still doesn't mean I'd like to see Scott here.......it would only continue the problem that was the primary cause for Moody to leave.
How the heck is Carroll convincing all these top RB's to come to USC? Are these guys that cocky and self-absorbed or stupid? At least Moody wised up and can now play close to home where he should of been in the first place. If Carroll is giving schollies to all these RB's then it's taking away schollies from other positions like OL and DL.
