Bingo. As I mentioned before, the bigger concern was our red zone offense. Getting inside the 10 and having to settle for fg's 3 times is a bit concerning. We have the talent to be able to score in those situations.

It could be that Les is sending a message to his offense that they need to put that sucker in the end zone in 3 plays. Until they show that they can execute in the red zone, he won't reward them with allowing them the chance to put it in there on 4th down. Put away a few TDs with authority to build up Coach Miles' confidence and then he will reward them with the chance to go for it on fourth. It's all very psychologicable.

Well, the game was 16-9 in the fourth quarter, wasn't it? I'd call that in doubt. One botched coverage froma tie ball game. Good thing we had gotten the points when we could. Felt much better having the seven point lead.

Miles made good calls. He has to take stock of how his team is playing and balance that out. I think taking the gimme points (and giving Jasper some experience) was a great call.

Of COARSE it's a lack of faith in the Oline. Think back when the "Mad Hatter" was ripping off successful 4th downs. We had a veteran Oline, a veteran QB (Flynn) a POWERFUL blocking FB (Quinn Johnson) and a veteran and determined RB (Hester).

Fast-forward to the present. We're breaking in an OLine with 2 new starters smack dab in the middle of the line (LG and C). Not that they aren't capable of becoming what we once had (although no one can replace/replicate the mammoth Herman Johnson). We lack a proven FB at this point (utilizing a former walk-on like Dugas while the young true Freshman FB learns) and dispite his success, a still "green" true-Soph. QB.

I think you're analyzing the situation too much. You're looking too deep into a question that the answer lies on the surface.

I thought, at least two times, that it was just a little too far to go for the first. The two times were both about 1.5 yards on the same goal line...opposite the student section. Wish we would have scored the TD's though!!!

apparently everyone has forgotten that we were behind in those games when we went for it on 4th down.

that 4th down play where Early scored against Bama? down by 4, FG would have done us no good.

them 4th downs against Florida? did anyone really feel like just tying that game and give the Pope and Jesus enough time to do something with the ball?

yeah the fake FG against Carolina was a big ole phuck you directed at Spurrier, but he deserves to get a few of them a year.
no reason to do that against Vandy.

    Take the points.

The field was wet. Defense was playing real good.

    Now, let's examine the circumstances-

We were up 7-0 and sitting on a 4th and 2 at what, the 8 yard line?

Miles made the correct call and put 3 points on the board to make it a 2 possession game.

The 2nd field goal- there was 6 seconds left on the clock and the score was still 10-7. Miles made the safe call and put 3 more points on the board knowing we were getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

The 3rd field goal was early in the 3rd quarter and gave us a 16-7 lead.

    Take the points!!!
