Am I the only one who's been a Saints fan long enough to have some fear/hate in me just for catching a glimpse of San Francisco in those 80's uniforms? Simply having those uniforms on makes them look like a much better team. Maybe it's just all those years that the 9ers were unbeatable in those threads...
Those are some good looking threads. The announcing tonight is aweful. Mike (non Golic) is just horrible.
No joke man. Absolutely horrible. I hate Mike and Mike, mainly because of little Mike. No flashbacks here since Alex Smith is the QB of this iteration of the Niners. And their receivers are terrible.
I listen to their radio show on my daily commute and it's ok, but geez, last night was brutal. In all fairness though, this is probably Greenberg's first attempt at play by play. It should be his last. DH, you're right about the uni's. How many times did we play them close back in the early 90's with that great defense only to find a way to lose at the end. Painful.
I can't fault Mike and Mike too much. They were forced into a place that they weren't comfortable. They had practice in a few AFL games...which obviously to ESPN means they are ready to do MNF.
i think they were ok. mike ditka tries to analyze too much and talks before the play is even over but thats not surprising. the other 2 were more listenable for me but i had no big problems with it. i guess they sound worse after you hear michaels and madden on sunday night fresh in memory. on a semi-related note, I really like boomer esiason on radio broadcasts and aikman on fox (tv). both give good insight that most ex-players cannot relay over the airwaves and neither try to be outrageous. you learn something each game if you care to. also, tiki barber is freaking boring. more stiff than a cryo'd ted williams.
For those of you that bothered to watch the game, was it just me or did Leinart seem to have a bit of a noodle arm? I recall being surprised last year with some of his velocity, but last night he looked off. And as always, I'm happy to see Alex Smith falter. I still can't believe he was a #1, though he is ten times better than Carr. At least Smith seems to sorta care.
so we have a team with 1st and 1 and proceeds to throw it 3 times in the final 2 minutes with the game on the line including 4th down (right after the ravens lost the same way with boller throwing from the goal line). are you kidding. smith deserved to get sacked but somehow got out of it. 107 total yards first 3 quarters. even the old saints could do that. I used to like smith at utah and thought he would be good. that was before i saw a few interviews with the dork. i am now anti-alex and pro-gore/49'ers. for some reason i liked this team seeing them develop the last year. regarding leinart, he looked pretty terrible as well and yes his arm looked suspect. musta had a night in paris.
