I agree with this--and I don't mean it in a racial or sterotype way either.

There are a number of my collegues that are African American and one in particular, in an unrelated conversation about 2 weeks ago, admitted to having "about 6 pair of basketball shoes"....

Collecting bball shoes is the thing to do for a young urban kid. You can't really afford to have a nice car or other stuff like that so you collect shoes. And I can tell ya, shoes can be addicting. Some people value shoes above others, how do most college kids have iPhones and everything? they prioritize and make it happen.

Plus it's not like he bought them all this past year, he's probably been collecting and keeping his shoes since he was in high school. It's the thing to do in schools nowadays

Nike gives them a max of 4 pairs a year. That's 12 right there for a senior. Then you factor in $10 pairs of flip flops and $50 pairs of New Balances or Air Force 1s and you're not looking at much to raise an eye brow about.

When you subtract the free gear he got from Nike, you're looking at like 37 pairs. 30 pairs of shoes is probably on the low end for some kids I went to high school with.

A young black kid has a nice shoe collection? OH MY GOD NO WAY!

Good point that the 'nupe made about these kids coming off 12 years of school uniforms, where the shoes were the only fashion statement permitted.

Come on, I know how it goes down. Star athlete goes to Foot Locker to pick up a pair of Jordans....inside the left shoe is a couple of Benjis, inside the right shoe is a roast beef poboy. New shoes, full belly, and cash...off to Shady's!!

Why did they release the crime scene report before arrests were made? That just isn't done. Why did they leak all the details from the alleged victims and no word yet on the LSU players stories? Why have they interviewed no independent witnesses, when dozens exist, some offering contrary stories to the media. They interviewed only the LSU players that the victims accused, why not all the players at the scene? Now that the damage is done, they are refusing all further comment on the case. No one thinks that the police have the right guys. Honestly do Jefferson and Johns look like guys that can beat up four bar fighters, at least one of which has a long rap sheet?

    The whole matter reeks.

I worked for the "swoosh" in distribution for a few years, I can bet most of those were freebies. Nike gives away tons of shoes to sports teams and players.

Nike's are a fashion apparel shoe as well as sports shoe nowadays. Most of the my black co-workers had upwards 25-30 pairs they bought. Add in what we were given free every year and it could double that.
