Some posts on Tidefans: When someone is beaten into a state of unconsciousness, it can't be ascertained if they are dead or not, except by checking for vital signs - breathing, pulse, etc. When these thugs left their victims, so far as they knew, they were murderers. That is, unless, unless you want to believe that they were tender and caring enough to lean down and check for breathing, check the wrist for pulse, etc. That's heavy. It would have been capital (death penalty) murder. I believe that, if Williams hadn't had his gun confiscated the day before, we would have been looking at a murder charge, judging from the ferocity and violence of the attack. I'm just so happy the gun was gone when all this went down yesterday... beating a kid into unconsciousness to get a backpack and wallet when, if you look the way these guys do, all you have to say is "Hand it over," is a crime of rage and passion. It's not simple robbery for property. I'm sure the charges will grow from those lodged so far. They have laid their hands on people and beat them in such a way that they may have permanently been injured or killed them. They can just take a great sign of relief it was not my daughter or son. But then again the relatives or friends of the students may think the way I do. Watch your backs boys. My daughter is in grad school at the Capstone right now...if she had been one of the victims...God help those 3 as they probably wouldn't have been around much longer and it wouldn't have been just me! She has a very protective Uncle who is a former US Marine! The only thing I can guarantee is that there are no limits in terms of what I will do to protect my children. None. Guys who operate like the accused here can't always count on picking someone's child whose parents aren't like me. These kids just think they're crazy. They have no idea what crazy is, or what it's capable of
From Tidefans: I cannot Claim to be shocked by the criminal behavior of these young men. ... it's actually surprising we don't see more of this happening. (I have a couple of personal stories of... a couple of guys who were on the team during the time I was in school (2000-2006). Heard one say to a UA police officer, "Do you know who I am? I run this campus!" after finishing the season with 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss....) When I was in school, there were regular reports about how one of Bear's "good Christian boys" had pummeled some regular student at a fraternity partys and what not. That was assault. It was rarely, if ever, punished. But it was not robbery. I think the most disturbing part of this are the tweets being sent out by some of the players. On AL. com, there is an article with the tweets. Some examples, "I am wit my boyz" and this jewel, "Let those without sin cast the first stone." I want to shake the kid that tweeted that and say, no 99.9% of the people pointing fingers have never beat someone unconscious. How disrespectful is that to the victims and their families for the player to tweet, I am wit my boyz?" To me, they are expressing their thug mentality. Yes, I am a huge lifelong Alabama fan and I am shocked about the tweets coming from our ball players about these four arrests. It's just a bunch of thugs and they should be kicked off the team just as the ones who got arrested.
you are very naive. possibly a gump Dre Kirkpatrick - arrested Mark Barron - arrested Rolando McClain -arrested Courtney Upshaw - arrested Dennis Pettway - arrested Eddie Williams - arrested Brent Calloway - arrested Tyler Hayes - arrested Jeremy Elder - arrested Jimmy Johns - arrested Aaron Douglas - arrested Simeon Castille - arrested Rashad Johnson - arrested Brandon Deaderick - arrested Brandon Fanney - arrested Roy Upchurch - arrested Derrick Crudup Jr. - Alabama assistant coach - arrested
To be fair alot of those arrests came after the player in question left Alabama. Most notably McClain and Kirkpatrick.
Not only that, but how many of them were felony arrests? It's one thing to catch a kid with pot and quite another if they beat fellow students to a pulp and steal their belongings.
I am still completely at a loss as to why these kids throw their futures away doing heartless things to people, themselves, or getting busted with drugs. Imagine you're a fairly high-profile starter with the NFL and $$$ in your future. So, what happens next? You're out late one night with friends and you just decide to go out and beat the crap out of somebody and steal their wallet and backpack? Or your friends decide they want to go sell a few dimes on the corner? "Nah man, I think I'll head back to the dorm and get some rest... coach gonna wear our asses out in the morning". Maybe it comes from upbringing, their background and surroundings. I don't know... it just seems to me some of these guys take pleasure in this kind of activity. I mean it's not like they needed to rob someone for money is it? The only other possibility is pleasure, and that is scary.
these guys are trash, and not saying it would've mattered much, but i can't help but think if some recruits would have been swayed if this had happened a couple of weeks ago. those 3 of 4 NC i'm sure would've met more. just wondering... no matter what, i feel sad for the victims!
