2nd half offensive effort against Alabama was a fluke

What is really sad is the absolute lack of intellectual honesty and objectivity shown by most of you in that you are unable to enjoy big win while at the same time, discuss a glaring deficiency.

Just because some people are intellectually superior you, doesn't mean we didn't enjoy the win. Some of us actually find the game interesting on other levels other than sitting there like tards, clapping like chimps just because the number next to LSU's name happen to be larger than those of the opposing team.

Everyone missed the point of this thread, including you. LSU did have an excellent half of offense against Alabama and the question is, why? It is not because we have turned the corner on offense as everyone had hoped. That is why the Alabama 2nd half remains an anamoly (anyone like that that descriptor better ). I contend, as I did in a post last week, that the coaches put the fear of God into the players during halftime of the Alabama game and that produced the turnaround. One thing that it DID strongly suggest is that it is the PLAYERS AND NOT THE COACHES that are primarily responsible for our poor offense this year. Aside from the trick play on 4th down, the plays that were called in the 2nd half of that game were the same plays that have been called all year long.

Or you could look at it for what it was. The Tigers coming off an emotional win against Bama played down to their competition, and due to the fact the D gave the O the ball on ULM's 30 or better half the time the O didn't need to produce big. So why even bother complaining, especially at only the end of the 1st half mark. Where it was obvious they were playing rather flat and vanilla.

Actually, Patrick Peterson drove the length of the field all by himself.

Look, over the years, even in 2004 and 2007, LSU has been a team that plays up in great games, even when we aren't as good as the other team, but we also play WAY down to competition sometimes.

We still won 51-0. Need to make sure we get ready this week cuz even tho Ole Miss sucks, they ALWAYS play us hard. Then, we really better get on the ball for Arkansas. It would REALLY suck to be 10-1 and lose the last game of the season to Arky.

Against Bama in the 2nd half, for perhaps the only time this season, the offensive players ALL executed at the same time. The OL blocked like they were supposed to (and like they were coached to do), the QBs threw timely, accurate passes and the receivers held on to balls that were thrown to them. When the players properly execute, the offense is fine. Unfortunately, these players do not consistently execute so we end up with fewer yards and points than we'd like. BUT...we are 10 games into the season and you still cannot accept reality. The reality is that we get just enough offense and the defense and special teams pick up the slack. This is our team. This is how we play and this is how we win. To expect, or hope, that a corner has been turned and suddenly the offense is going to be an efficient machine is unrealistic. Next week against Ole Miss is going to be more of the same. We will struggle to move the ball consistently, but the defense will keep us in the game until, hopefully, the offense will manage to put up enough points to win. Same against Arkansas the following week. Accept it and quit waiting for something that's not going to happen. It's the 2010 version of LSU and, thus far, it's been good enough.

Very thoughtful reply, and I agree.

Excellent post. The fact is, we are 9-1, with a very strong possibility that we will win out.

I can accept what we are, the question is why are we this way. I don't believe LSU just isn't able to recruit good WRs and QBs. We dropped the ball somewhere in that department. I think a lot of it goes back to Crowton, our OC and QB coach. I have less a problem with him as OC than I do as QB coach, but the fact remains that our offense, his responsibility, is not cutting it. I suspect Miles is tinkering as well, but Miles definitely isn't going anywhere now (unless he wants to).

31 of those points you can thank the defense for. 51-0 is better than what I was expecting, defense was lights out. However there is no getting around the fact that the offense is atrocious. I'm very happy with the outcome of the game, but the lack of offense against a sub par team is a disappointment and a continuation of a bad 3 year trend. I think the OL is almost as much to blame as the QB and the OC. We should have been able to line up and blow their defense of the line of scrimmage on every play and it just didn't happen. Poor OL play, poor QB play and a ton of dropped balls again equals a dismal offense. Rueben Randle needs to have hand transplants, the ones he's using are broken.

Overall a better than expected score. Just what you would expect from the defense and exactly what we have been seeing from the offense. Nothing new or surprising. One definite positive is that the score was good enough that a lot of young guys got significant action on D and they looked pretty good. The future on D is very very bright. The future on offense is loaded but very unclear. Should have canned Stud last year. Not impressed at all with what Gonzales has done with the WR's. Would love to see what a new OL coach and Mettenberger could do with this O.

    yes

    correct again

Yes, but we can still discuss it and wonder why with so much talent the offense struggles year after year. Can't complain about 9-1 with the loss against undefeated AU at their house. You can mumble and grumble about the enormous waste of talent on offense though. I think most fans feel that 3 years is a long time not to be able to correct the problem. I think many also feel that had some changes been made during the off season that maybe we would still be in the hunt for the SEC West. I'm not sure, we still need a QB, but maybe.
