I think you're on the right path, but are choosing the wrong target (I'm mixing metaphors;sorry). All of the "excuses" I'm offering are coachable. Receivers dropping passes, poor blocking, strength issues....all of these things can be coached out of players. So OK, you want to say our problem is coaching, I'll have that discussion. But if we're talking about choice of plays...I've already agreed, too conservative in the red zone, too quick to go into "protect the lead" mode. But if a receiver drops a pass, how is that a fault of a bad play call? What play is better than the one called in which 3 Bama defenders are in the QB's face before he even completes his drop-back? Let's fix the execution issues before we execute the play calling.
I am sorry, but I sat here and had to listen to the same argument during the Miles years. "Players just dont make the plays". Well, when you give them 3rd & 8 repeatedly because you keep running into 8 man fronts, no shit! Fact is, a good OC can manage around weaknesses. We, for whatever reason, keep plugging away. Take the Bama game. WHO IN THE FUCK CALLS A PLAY ACTION PASS IN OUR ENDZONE with our Oline being dominated all night? I am sorry, that is 100% on E and he does that shit all game. The only difference is LSU out talented all but 2 teams on our schedule this year.
C'mon pride, if you're going to cherry-pick individual plays from an entire season, pretty soon you're in a situation where Nick Saban is a terrible coach because of what we saw in the NCG. Our play calling is leaps and bounds better than the continuous shit-storm that was Miles/Cam. And I will acknowledge yet again, it can be even better. But it is not the disaster you would have us believe!
Its not though. I sat here and watch the same thing happen vs SELA. If you can point to a game where we didn't have these problems, I am all ears. Apparently, our players are good enough to beat the shit out of UGA, but lose to A&M, UF, and not score on Bama in 2 years!
