Hey, everybody!! Thought I would drop in and listen on how the upcoming season is shaping up for y'all. I wanted to wait until baseball season is over before I stuck my head in the door. Man, that's a long season around these parts. I like your new DC and your 3-4 look. I figure y'all are pretty happy the Steele era was a brief encounter of a weird kind. That certainly wasn't the Chavis D you put on the field last season. I wish LSU a good beatdown on Wisconsin in what is nothing short of a great venue to put on the bucket list. After that, we'll have to talk.
Except we couldn't get Coker on the field. Our running back beat him out. With Winston, had he duplicated half the nonsense that followed him to Tallahassee, how would he have gotten on the field? I recall his dad telling the press after the rape allegations how both family and FSU had failed Jameis in his time of need. And to think we missed out on all that?
@TUSKtimes That's not what I found so funny, TUSK. There's an attempt to somehow discount what Jake Coker was able to accomplish last year pointing out how he spent his time at another school and then transferred to Bama and had success. It's two-fold. One, Bama signed McCarron who ended up having a pretty successful time at Bama. He's right, Bama didn't sign Coker. But, the notion he was "scooped..." Yeppers, really missed out on that QB recruitment. And then ($1 to @furduknfish ) ... secondly, Coker spends time at another school and then transfers to Bama. He spends his first year on the bench, then has a good senior year. But, what's seemingly forgotten ... I recall another QB who started at one SEC school, transferred to JUCO and then to LSU. He spent one year on the bench and then went on to have a good senior year. We called him Mett. In some sort of way he's trying to make fun of a transfer coming to Bama all the while ignoring the fact that one of the best QB's LSU has fielded in the last several years took almost the same path. I'm still laughing and shaking my head a bit ... BUT, I'd rather this conversation go back to the '16-'17 season than enjoy the frivolity he supplies.
Back to the topic at hand ... I'm leaning towards the opinion that those who are discounting Florida this season very well could be missing the boat. While he's a relative unknown around the collegiate football world, I believe a lot of people are underestimating the combination of Coach Mac and Del Rio under center. I don't recall if I've seen any early lines on that game. Has anyone?
FORGOTTEN my ass. lol I was telling someone recently that the only QB Les has put out there that was of the mold of what we needed (one who can pass to open up the run game) was one we "picked up" really. No no Terry, this cat here hasn't forgotten. Difference tween us and yall is that Bama has had other QB's who got it done. As to Les' QB struggles, do I even need to go there?
@lsutiga Earlier this morning when reading this thread another popped to mind. It was started almost two years to the day. I don't want to rehash that thread, but I do wonder one thing. When Kiffin was hired a lot, A LOT, thought it was a joke. When we were having the conversation here I recall saying his attitude and mouth got on my nerves to no end when he was at UT and when he returned to USC he did nothing to change my mind about how he handles himself. But, at the same time, I pointed to the results he had with his offenses and quarterbacks. We've seen him work with two different quarterbacks. Blake Sims who resembles Harris in his skill set and Coker who resembles Mett. The offenses were tailored to fit each and the results are what they are. Has your opinion changed on Kiffin? I still believe he's a smart ass. I'm far from convinced he's ready to return to the ranks of being a head coach. But, when it comes to his ability to work with quarterbacks and calling offenses? I've been impressed. The last time I saw an OC who was able to change with the personnel at quarterback as well as Kiffin has in the last two years was Al Borges at Auburn and what he was able to do with Jason Campbell. Hell, didn't Borges turn him into a 1st round pick? In the end we're right back to the same conversation we've had on several occasions. There's a difference between having an athlete playing quarterback, and a quarterback who is an athlete.
