Only in passing. It said another 8-win season will have fans talking about the hot seat. What a shock, we have "fans" who wanted to fire him after a 13-1 season. The key quote from Schad is below. “It’s going to take a lot to fire Les Miles,” said Schad. “The guy has won 100 games over a 10-year period. I certainly think most fans in America would enjoy averaging 10 wins per year … True enough. But we have a lot of fans in Louisiana who whine about winning seasons.
Miles has been a great coach for LSU. I am one that believes there are few coaches that could have matched, must less exceeded, his level of success. But he has a mental block. His offensive philosophy, particularly as it pertains to QBs, is ridiculously outdated and has actually hurt the teams success. With his record, Miles should be mentioned among the greats along with Saban, Spurrier, CUM, .... but he is not. He is usually ranked among the bottom of coaches in the West. I don't think he is deserving of that kind of dismissal but I think it goes directly back to years and years of offensive ineptitude. If he would either change his philosophy (preferable) or recruit the right kind of QB to succeed in his system imagine how great he could have been. How many NC's could LSU have won with a QB? Frankly, with the type of QB he likes to play and the scheme he likes to run he might as well adopt the flexbone. I think it would be way more successful that the current pound a square peg into a round hole offense he runs. I don't care that he prefers a pound and ground offense if it works. What I'm tired of is an offense that runs like the Keystone Cops.
