I don't see it the same way, tirk. It's been my impression that the "renewed" interest in Auburn is largely credited to the hiring of Muschamp. I do agree part of their faith in Auburn has to do with the turn-around from that 0-8, '12 season to the 8-1 season in '13 which is, and should be, largely credited to Malzahn's scheme. To me, it's a hard team to get a read on...which, in my opinion, is a large part of the reason you don't see/hear a lot of pundits talk about LSU right now as @LaSalleAve pointed out. Take Auburn. Do we discount the 0-8 season since it was under Chizik? If the 8-1, '13 season wipes that away how do we ignore the 4-4 SEC record in '14?
Oh it definitely helps. Malzahn getting his own players is the defining part for me. He won with a mix of previous players and now with muschamp and malzahns scheme and own players there is reason to like auburn.
Jeremy Johnson is one of those guys. He's slated to be their starting QB...a guy that's mentioned under passing capabilities but not for running. How does that define that offense? To me, it's an offense that's going to be defined by turnovers. "Do I keep the ball, toss, or pass..." Due to JJ being a passing guy, I see mistakes. I'm thinking, *thinking,* '15's SECCG is who makes the fewest mistakes. Game manager.
Well I knew if it dealt with auburn you'd find nothing but mistakes. It's what gumps do with the plainsmen. It's part of your dna. I dont fault you for that.
ESPN weighs in with their post spring power rankings. And yes @tirk I can't say I agree, or make a lot of sense in some cases, with this. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/101153/sec-post-spring-power-rankings-4
