Y You could argue that we haven't seen this type of recruiting of WRs over the last few years by LSU. Been some special talent and this class will surpass those. I have always said where fans see major issues in depth and performance, recruits usually see that as opportunity.
This is the second person I've seen bring up his 100 rating by 247: Wescott Eberts @SBN_Wescott 2d Texas is now after the top JUCO prospect, D'haquille Williams , who earned insane perfect rating from #247Sports And it links to an article from a Texas Longhorn blog two days ago that says: Star JUCO receiver now on the radar. To hear some former opposing high school coaches tell it, current MIssissippi Gulf Coast wide receiver D'haquille Williams was the best high school receiver they ever coached against. To hear some national recruiting analysts tell it, Williams is one of the best receiver prospects they have seen emerge recently. A class of 2014 prospect who has received a rating of 100 by 247Sports and is the top JUCO prospect in the country ...He's also 6'3 and 213 pounds of pure terror for opposing defensive backs who has elite skills across the board -- size, speed, ball skills, hands, route running, and agility. Hence the 100 rating. One of the assistance coaches at MGC, Pete Bennett, believes that the 'Horns are in the mix for Williams after recently extending an offer, though the Louisiana native is expected to pick either LSU or Auburn eventually and Bennett added USC as a school of high interest for Williams.
JC Shurburtt, Director of Recruiting 247Sports: With a rare combination of size, feet, hands and athleticism, Mississippi Gulf Coast junior college wide receiver D’haquille Williams is an elite prospect at his position in every sense of the word. For all of the reasons that add up to that description, Williams ... was given a numerical rating of 100, the highest non-franchise numerical rating 247Sports assigns. ... The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Williams caught 67 passes for 1,295 yards and 18 touchdowns this past season as a redshirt freshman. His junior film is full of highlight-reel plays, displaying his elite ability to get separation from defenders and make the toughest of catches look effortless. Division I programs are lining up with scholarship offers. http://247sports.com/Article/Dhaquille-Williams-is-the-No-1-JUCO-prospect-for-2014-129585
As for the 100 rating by 247. I think only 4 2014 prospects have that at this time and one is Leonard Fournette. It is the highest a player has been ranked coming out of a Juco. Corddarrell Patterson was a 99.
Hope Leslie can show some of that this year. I hear he passed his Algebra class and should be cleared shortly.
Just to be clear, if I recall his issue at ESJ wasn't his grades per se right BHelm? I thought I recall that it had something to do with some "unaccredited" church school he attended for his first one or two years of high school and that became a clearinghouse issue once he graduated. I thought he was a decent enough student at ESJ that had that church school not been an issue he would've easily qualified to play right away. Huge pickup! And gumbo, I'm sure Anthony Jennings is saying don't worry about who's going to get him the ball. That's taken care of.
Good student but because of the accredidation issue he had to start his freshman and sophomore years from scratch. Zero credits transferred to ESJ. That is why he wasn't even ranked coming out of HS for most of the year because everyone knew including DW he would have to go to Juco.
Mike Detillier raves about this guy and says he will be the best receiver on this team from the jump. Expects him to only play one year and then jump to the NFL, saying he already has everything the NFL is looking for in a receiver. Everything.
