So, this tiny little Catholic high school in NBR, my alma mater, has now sent 3 guys to Tiger Stadium in the last 4 years, more than any other school in those 4 years, after only sending two before since 1947, when it opened. Amazing.
I like that tiny little school. I was at the Bash with a former Head Football Coach of that schools son, Vince "Chico" Gonzales.
But we all know that Chico made a name for himself at Glen Oaks, which is where I almost went to school, because we lived two blocks away. The teams he coached in the '60's were powerhouses, we went to many of the games, even went to Bogalusa for a game against the Lumberjacks. Bob Didier, Mel's son, was the QB but went on to a MLB career as a catcher for the Braves and a base coach for many years.
The other two RHS players? Rodney Guillot, a guard who played for Chollie Mac from '60-'62, and Gant Petty, the long snapper for the '03 championship team, who played from '01-'05. He then went on to fly the A-10 Thunderbolt in combat in Afghanistan.
Rodn Rodney became an electrical engineer retiring a couple of years ago though he still goes into the office once in a while. He is a really great guy and loves LSU. It is hard to believe he was a guard as he is 5'9" at best and doesn't look like he could have ever carried 200 lbs. How things have changed.
