Great pickup! Big target with huge hands. Congrats to CLM & the staff and welcome to Tiger Town Kyrion! http://lsu.rivals.com/barrier_noent...t=content.asp&cid=1372207&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=
According to this article he's a guy that was just overlooked and really lit it up at the LSU camp. Might be a real steal if we can keep him committed once the secret is out. http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...-parker-commits-to-lsu-tigers-2013-recruiting
Poor guy has only three stars. That's why this thread has over 100 views and only one comment. Well that and the fact that there's been almost no discussion of the guy by scout and rivals. I remember one article about the guy on rivals. I'm really getting the feeling that LSU is a lot more secretive about who's even on their radar. I can see they want to keep someone like this guy, who could be another Tyrann Mathieu type, under wraps. But I'm not sure many had any idea we were gonna sign those big recruits the last couple of weeks. We're way down the info highway, and I think the guys that write for the scouting services aren't as enlightened as they were in previous years.
to be fair, the recruiting services are buzzing about this guy, its just that it's all so new since the guy just blew up out of nowhere the last several weeks (which is why I saw several LSU fans saying "this doesn't make sense" when we first offered him, but now I'm not seeing any of that, instead a bunch of excitement) like the article pointed out above, he didn't play last year due to injury, and just by practicing in front of Div 1 coaches over the last several weeks, he's gotten a landslide of offers in March, Scout.com (who still hasn't rated him yet), watched him and other prospects at his high school practice and reported that he said he has no offers from anybody but that "based on what we saw on the field today, Parker should have a number of programs coming in the spring" ... and that is despite college coaches and scouts not having any film on him to evaluate. another recruiting guru wrote that he "has been blowing up the camp circuit" Rivals (who currently rates him a 3-star) just reported that he was the top overall performer at LSU's camp on Monday...and considering we only have two camps this summer full of talented recruits, that is pretty impressive ESPN (who hasn't rated him yet), also reported that he looked great at the LSU camp, particularly in route-running, catching, and in 7-on-7 drills it looks like LSU was in the right place at the right time getting this guy...LSU coaches just happened to be at his high school practice (there to watch other recruits I'm sure), and were so impressed with him they offered him on the spot being that LSU was the first big school to offer him, that made a big impression on him and his family... We asked Kryion what were some selling points on LSU? "They were the first big school to offer, and that meant a lot to me and my family," says Parker. " with Oklahoma recently throwing an offer out to Kryion last week (in addition to offers from Texas A&M, Arkansas, etc) was there ever any consideration on that recent big-time offer? "No Sir, they were too late to the dance, because I had already done my research on LSU, and liked everything about the Tigers," says Parker. also, there is a lot a buzz that Texas is about to give him an offer (he plays for Houston high schools), esp since the WR that was their #1 target appears to be going to Baylor, (when the news broke Parker committed to LSU, people on Texas boards were writing stuff like "damn it")
Nice! I love the way this staff targets needs instead of just grabbing stars. We needed big targets and we're getting them! So ready to prove that the last few years was a system of a QB, rather than a system of an offensive attack.
looks pretty athletic based on this pic of him in action. he also looks like Honey Badger's brother, except bigger than TM7
When LSU offers, I know the guy is real good. Miles and his staff have consistently been great evaluators of talent. I'm waiting for Armand Williams to make a splash this year. I still think that overall, there's an info pipeline about the recruits that isn't flowing as well as in the past.
Yeah, BHelm is sure pretty lazy this year, LOL. I can't believe his priority isn't keeping us up w/minute to minute updates on all recruits. I know you are referring to the services, btw, but Bhelm's the best source out there, imho. At least w/o me having to go digging for hours to find the info.
what's interesting is this guy went to the same high school, Lamar High in Houston, as Brandon LaFell and Brian Orakpo (for this upcoming season, he'll be playing for the new school that he transferred to: Manvel High School, south of Houston, the Class 4A state runner ups last year) and even though Parker has no statistics or no film, he is already rated almost just as high as LaFell and Orakpo were IN THE FINAL RANKINGS per Scout.com's recruiting profile for Lafell: in his senior year at Lamar, Brandon LaFell caught 46 passes for 1,116 yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensively he had 70+ tackles and eight interceptions (four returned for TDs). LaFell also returned two punts for scores. LaFell recorded 39 catches for 512 yards with nine touchdowns as a junior of course, LaFell would go on to be a First Team All-SEC WR at LSU, a 3rd Round pick in the NFL Draft, #3 on the Panthers with 468 receiving yards as a rookie in 2010, and #2 on the Panthers with 613 receiving yards in 2011 and check out where LaFell finished in the recruiting race: Rivals - 3 star, #32 WR Scout - 4 star, #34 WR offers: LSU, Florida, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri, Arizona compare to Parker: 247 Sports -- 3 star, #53 WR Rivals -- 3 star, #69 WR Scout -- NA ESPN -- NA offers: LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Illinois, Utah, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech, ULL and that is despite LaFell putting up all those great stats his senior year, while Parker isn't a senior yet and missed his junior year due to injury now compare Parker to another great player that came out of his high school recently: Brian Orakpo (2-time Pro Bowler, 1st Round pick, Unanimous First-team All-American, won the same Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Lombardi Award that Glenn Dorsey had won the year before, won the Ted Hendricks Award for being the best DE in the NCAA, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, etc) per Scout.com's recruting profile for Orakpo: Orakpo, who has amazing speed off the edge (clocked a 4.56 Nike camp forty) -- projects to give larger/slower tackles fits on passing downs [note that at the NFL Combine, Orakpo ran a 4.63 forty, and was taken 1st Round]. Although Orakpo's a little light at 218 pounds, he has a nice frame to add more muscle/weight [at the NFL combine, he weighed in at 263]. And he's been described by his coaches and peers alike to be a "real physical" player with a great work ethic. Senior Stats: "In 8 games total, I still had double-digit sacks, maybe 13, and at least 60-70 tackles" [note that he did all that in just 8 games... in his All-American senior year at the U of Texas, when he swept all the national awards for a defensive lineman, he had only had 40 tackles and 11.5 sacks... and that was in 12 games, not in 8 games like he played in high school] and check out where Orakpo finished in the recruiting race: Scout -- 3 star, #25 DE Rivals -- low 4 star, #12 DE offers: Texas, Stanford, Texas A&M, Missouri, Colorado, Iowa State, Houston and that is despite Orakpo putting up all those great numbers his senior year, while Parker isn't a senior yet and missed his junior year due to injury it will be interesting to see what Parker does his senior year
