Porter out for now Projected starting center Elliott Porter was conspicuously absent from LSU’s first two spring football practice sessions. LSU coach Les Miles said Friday that Porter is facing a medical issue, but as is often his custom declined to be more specific. “It’s not going to be debilitating for any length of time,” Miles said. “He’ll work back in later in the spring.” True freshman Ethan Pocic, one of LSU’s eight early enrollees, has been seen working at center. “It’s a great opportunity for us to develop some depth there,” Miles said.
Big cat drill returns. About half way through Miles has to stop and warn them that the whistle stops the play. It was getting a little feisty. The WR's look like they are ready to block this season. That can be the difference between a nice gain and a big gain. http://videos.nola.com/times-picayune/2013/03/lsu_football_gets_physicale_wi_1.html
For years that was a plus with the WR's from LSU, downfield blocking. We should get back to this during the season.
Damn, watching that video made me realize how much I miss the little coaching that I did. I love that practice talk.
A couple notes from practice tape QB's look pretty damn sharp -mett looks more lean and seems to have a more mature demeanor -rivers has gotten bigger and looks like he has improved his accuracy -Rettig looks good but too thin and his passes are a bit wobbly - Jennings looks like the real deal folks , I have never seen a qb this young look so good he's lean agile and has some serious zip on his passes we'll see how he handles a huddles and descion maker etc. later but from the physicality and poise side of things he seems to check out -Danielle hunter looks like an animal ready to fill in what we thought would be a weak point on the line -I have heard really good things about kadron Boone as a leader -ball catching seems to be a point of emphasis for the recievers
Mett says he's actually gained 12 pounds, but it definitely looks like muscle. He also looks and sounds much more mature in his interviews.
Just to note, Mett has been doing what he needs to do to get better as a QB.......In this write-up, Mett talks about this. Cameron said he wants to add to the playbook and build on what the offense already knows, but clearly he's changing the way the offense is implemented. The terminology is different, according to Mettenberger, with a numbering system that will simplify play calls. Mettenberger said he understands his role and has grown closer to Cameron during the interim between his hire and the beginning of spring practice. "We've been meeting every day," Mettenberger said. "We wanted to make this first week of transition smooth. He's in a new environment coaching college for the first time in 12 years.
