#1 player in the state ain't much of a steal, lol. 6'4 250 at LB? Sounds like me in high school. Except I didn't run a 4.55...or play both ways...or play special teams...or...nevermind, that sounds nothing like me. LOL
Just curious, but who has him #1 in the state of Louisiana? Scout has him #4, Rivals #15, 247 Sports #7 and ESPN #21. He's obviously a great player and I'm glad he's committed to LSU, but haven't seen him listed as #1 in the state anywhere.
This was from earlier in this thread: Lee Brecheen, publisher of Louisiana Football Magazine since 1996, said this about Jones: he "runs a 4.55/40 and looks every bit of that as a LB on defense when he’s not a QB for his High School team in Lake Charles. Melvin Jones is the Louisiana version of Donta Hightower of Alabama (265-pound LB, 1st Round pick by the Patriots in the 2012 Draft, consensus first-team All-American in 2011). He’s a kid that will weigh 260 in college and run a 4.6/40 and stay at LB because he’s so gifted. He’s my # 1 player in the state for 2013. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a LB this size from a Louisiana High School run and hit like this kid does every play. It’s just flat out off the charts." That's just one writers opinion so you're right, but with his offer list, I don't think he's much of a steal. Probably all in how one defines "steal."
LSU Football @LSUfball 3m The newest Tiger: Melvin Jones, LB from Lake Charles, La. and Washington-Marion HS! #LSURoar Shea Dixon @Sheadixon LB Melvin Jones has signed with #LSU . That's a couple big additions out of Lake Charles in 2013.
