Sounds like UT is in good shape for him
ATM. I hope that doesn't change.

    just a matter of time

we need to lock this kid up

Herron is the type of athlete that can be a
    game changer

    would look good in orange

Looks like he is liking him some LSU. Would
like to see him end up in an orange and
white uniform when it's all said and done.

We're still in this one pretty strong, I think.

Arkansas IMO is our toughest competition
    currently around Memphis.

Rumors on vq that Herron committed today
    after his basketball game..

    Man i hope its true!

The only thing I heard was the
    announcer during the state tournament
game accidentally say Herron was a UT
    commit.

Herron said there are 48 students from
Central High School in Memphis at UT and
that "Tennessee is like another Central". A
home away from home. Herron said that
was BIG, and that he talked to Stokes and
Cam while he was at UT.

This one of the most important recruits in
    this class. He's a game changer ...
He's big and athletic. With his size and
athleticism he can play the Jack and End on
    any down.

The fact of the matter is that these kids are
hearing that Dooley will be fired next year.
The best thing for Tennessee is for the kids
to wait to commit. I can't blame kids for not
wanting to commit to Tennessee when they
hear the coaches they are wanting to play
    for will be gone.

According to a several rumors going on
    apparently several of Herron's teammates
have said that Herron has Vandy out in front
big with only LSU having a chance to catch
    up

One rumor. Have fun watching Frank in
    Orange and white.

Herron will be a Vol on NSD.

Poster on the VQ said he talked to one of
his teammates who also said that Vandy
was out in front...I hope this isnt true.

Vq posters are some of the worse period.
    Not exactly credible source.

Vandy and LSU are hot schools right now
with the Memphis kids, and that of course
his Herron's top 2 as of now. Things
    change though.

At this point, I'm more worried about LSU
    than Vandy.

I'm pretty confident Herron likes UT

For those that haven't seen his film. Beast.
When it comes to in-state guys, he has to
    be at the top

He's getting alot of attention from big name
programs (what I want) and will get more
    IMO...

    I can
definitely see him being a great rusher off
    the edge for us

let's quit clowning around and get
    this guy

Post makes no sense, we have never
"clowned" around with this guy. He has
been a priority from the very start

I like our chances, the longer he waits.

    Herron will be a Vol.

    Need this kid

    Agreed

Looks like it's going to be a LSU/Tennessee
    battle.
Clear & Stokes are staying in his ear about
    coming to Tennessee.

    USCw offered

    Herron is talented

Good enough for LSU = Good enough for
    USC.

USC recruits the best prospects across
    the country

USC can get most any recruit they want

Hearing this kid will be heading to UT when
    it's all said and done..

    Vol.

    Herron will be a VOL!!!!

Herron will be a vol on NSD no matter what

    Mississippi State - " I've actually visited
Mississippi State five or six times . I fell in
love with it, and felt comfortable there.
    Really comfortable. My [basketball
    teammate] Andre Applewhite signed there.
He'll be going there next year. I like it there
    a lot."
This quote says all I need to know.
Herron will be a bulldog by the end of the
    summer.

(this is what he said about the Univ of)
Memphis -- "That's my hometown team,
you've got to love them. Coach [Justin]
Fuente is doing amazing things at Memphis.
I can see a difference right now. The guys
are working extra hard. It's like a new
beginning. I used to go up once a week
    just to look at practice."
Does this mean he will go to Memphis?

    ....that is up until 05-20-2012

    More from Volnation...

Announcing Friday, looks to be LSU.

Wishful thinking here but hopefully this is
the instate silent commit we have been
    hearing about

    I really hope he is
our silent. We need this kid bad. All signs
sure do point to LSU; however, here's one
    little thought and observation...does anyone
find it interesting that he will announce the
day before our lineman camp?? Remember
Skeeter said that the silent would announce
most likely within the next 2-3 weeks.
Maybe the coaches asked him to wait to do
it just before the lineman camp, in order to
    create momentum.

I still believe we have a great shot at
    landing him.

    he'll be a Vol

Accd to his HS coach, LSU has
not pushed for a commit from him and now
expect MSU to be his choice

even if he does commit to MSU he'll be a
    Vol on NSD.

    I'll be
enraged if we lose a great in-state kid to
the likes of MSU but it happens.

'Some' smoke that it'll be MSU, although I
haven't read it as a definite from any
    reliable source. Steve Robertson(scout) said
it's likely State...so he may end up at
    Memphis(yes, he's that good of a source)!
24/7 writer Paul Jones(State's most reliable,
or 'only' reliable writer) talked to him
yesterday but said he gave no hints. Said if
he was forced to guess, he'd say State, but
    it was strictly a guess.
At any rate, I have to think Andre
Applewhite, his best friend and high school
    basketball teammate(Herron is a 2-sport
standout) that just signed with MSU may
    skew him toward State.

    No excuses if we
lose him. We have done everything we can
    to land him.

That stinks..he's going to be a good one

    NSD is a long way
away, and I have a good feeling

Just talked to my LSU buddy. He doesn't
think LSU is the favorite to sign Herron,
he's heard very little about him recently.
    Could be MSU.

I'm still holding out hope that he's playing
us all and is going to pick the orange and
    white tomorrow.

My guess (which is worth zero and based
    on gut): MSU

At this point, that's what I would go with,
too. My close friend is an LSU fan, and he
follows recruiting relatively closely. I spoke
to him last night, and he hadn't heard
    anything about an imminent commitment
from anyone from TN, specifcally Herron.

If I had to put money on it, I'd say it's MSU.
Hopefully Herron will surprise with his
    selection.

I just started to like our chances again. This
    could get exciting.

    That's great news!

Paul Jones(MSU site 247) and Batron
    Simmons both are hearing LSU.

    I hate missing on talented
instate players but I feel like our staff done
everything they could to land him, just
wasn't what he wants.... Even if he
verbals else where I don't think our coaches
    will give up on him.

It doesn't take long to figure out that Frank
Herron is probably the best DL here. LSU/
MSU is getting a great one. (my pick is
    LSU)
    -Barton Simmons 247

    LSU it is

    LSU dang it

    Lsu

LSU Per Keith Niebuhr - Rivals

Oh well when we make the sec
championship game and beat lsu it will be
nice to flip herron to ut also

    True dat.
I never count the out of state guys until
    signing day or enrollment.

I must have missed where he has already
signed a letter of intent to lsu

    I know
    Just jerkin some chains
Never count the chickens before they hatch

    Jmo, will switch to Vols

Guess his blood doesn't run Deep Orange.

Quick vote. Who has the ugliest colors in
the SEC: LSU or Vandy? I'd say it's
between those two. I know our orange gets
knocked a lot by rival fans (and even some
of our "own") but could you imagine walking
    around wearing a yellowish-gold shirt or a
purple shirt? I'll stick with my orange, thank
    ye!

LSU colors are fine with me. My high school
    wore purple and white(Good times).

My HS colors were purple and gold (our
football unis looked just like LSU) so I've
    always liked LSU colors

On 247, Herron moved up 45 spots to #149
    overall.

Moved up to #77 overall on Rivals

Yea, he got a huge bump on both sites.
    Figures...committed to LSU.

    Maybe he's just a
legit player. He's freakishly athletic for his
    size.

    Sarcasm meter isn't working, huh?
I'm fully aware that Herron is a great player.
I wanted him badly in this class.

    He's gonna be really good

    ...that is up until 08-20-2012

The Volnation thread on him is quiet until bowl season, 12-04-2012...

He jumped into the top 100 in the
new rivals rankings at #86 and #4 overall
    strong side defensive end.

Butch said we are locking down the
state of Tennessee. What about Herron?

Guy at my work that helped coach his all
star game asked him what's up with his
schools. Frank laughed and said its a tough
decision. Then was asked bout tenn. he
would like to see who we hired. This was
    before we had jones

    Apparently Coach Elder just started
    following Herron on twitter.

    U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICAN GAME:
    THURSDAY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
    1. DE FRANK HERRON, MEMPHIS
    (TENN.) CENTRAL
Herron had an incredible day of practice
on Thursday. The LSU commitment has
violent hands that make him almost
    unblockable, and he possesses
quickness that allows him to shoot gaps
and get upfield. He forced more than one
fumble in the team period by disrupting
the mesh point between the quarterback
    and running back.

Mike Farrell also states in this video that
Herron is blowing up at the Army game and
he will be pushing for 5-star status by NSD.

    He's a monster of a prospect.

    Makes me sick.

Yeah, word is he is tearing it up at the Army
game practices. Rumor he will get a major
bump up in the rankings soon based on his
    performance.

    Herron has done a good
job of moving up and competing, probably
could play anywhere at this point. YOu
    never know until signing day.

Do we have any chance with Frank? Sorry,
I've lost out on the thread.
I think he is a Tennessee Stud!

Why is so shocking for people to believe a
player who is a defensive lineman would
want to play for LSU? Do you not get the
NFL Draft on cable where you come from?

Josh Ward just stated on Sports 180 that
Frank Herron had sent him a text saying that
the UT coaches (new staff) had not
contacted him yet, but if they did he would
    difinitely be interested.

I heard that too. Was gonna post it but
didn't have a link. I would hope they would
    atleast reach out.

Hate to lose him...but if he is going
somewhere else, LSU is ok by me.

According to VQ Herron is willing to listen to
UT and we've been in contact.

    Yay!!! I love Frank!

    the staff was supposed
    to meet with Herron tonight.

Ya think the DE picking LSU today helped
this along? Maybe the rumors of RN
    considering LSU as well?

    Very active and
physical Lineman. Really want to steal this
guy. He can play for us next season.

Did staff talk to him after the game today

I won't get my hopes up on this guy either.
He's been solid to LSU for a while now. ...However,
the fact that he's listening now makes a big
    statement about the staff.

Oh hell. This one I really want.

    Interesting development. This kid and
Lawson. My God, what a haul that would
    be...

This kid was literally on the verge of
committing to UT. Then, some other big
offers rolled in, like LSU, and his mind
wandered. .... I hope CBJ and staff can
    work their magic.

I believe he's listening again because of the
number of D ends that LSU has committed.

The staff met with him tonight.
    We'll see.

Hmm this could possibly get interesting.
Glad I decided to open this thread again.
This could be a huge NSD opportunity for
    UT.

LSU has 7 DL committed currently and
could land RN. That's how you win in this
    league.

8 if you include the ATH Beckwith

Love to get Herron back to UT!! ...
    We can hope! GO VOLS!!

    From what I heard Herron
looked real good this week at DT.

    from Rivals -
The East defensive line was dominant all
week at practice, and Herron was one of a
handful that brought that over to the game.
Herron finished with two tackles on the day,
including a sack on West quarterback Max
Browne when the LSU commit blew through
the offensive tackle and hit Browne just as
he was setting up to throw. Herron is an
    impressive physical specimen who looks
much bigger than his listed 6-foot-4, 236
    pounds.

I think we still have a shot.

Coach Jones and staff are going to go after
Herron hard, gotta get these top tennessee
    players back in the fold.

    From Rivals -
This goes to the player who raised his stock
the most, and Herron is that guy. Listed at
6-foot-4 and 236 pounds coming in, Herron
looked every bit of 6-foot-5 and 260
pounds and moved like a smaller prospect.
He's raw, but his athleticism and physical
ability will allow him to make a big jump.

From reading his recent quotes, I think he
will give the new coaching staff some
    respect

Come on Frank!! Tell ole grass muncher to
go to hel*!! Tennessee has a spot for you.

frank would kill it at tennessee..

the LSU commitment jumped 59 spots to
No. 23 overall in the country.
    "We expected to see a 6-foot-4, 235-
pounder show up honestly and he looked
every bit of 265 pounds and 6-foot-5,"
Farrell said. "And the way he moved, got off
the snap, got after the passer and held the
edge against the run was very impressive.
...his upside is amazing and once he gets
to college and continues to improve he
    could be special."

If I was defensive lineman and saw how LSU
was putting multiple players into the NFL
every year, yeah, I think I’d want to go
    there, too.

    Maybe visiting Herron?
    Butch Jones@UTCoachJones
    Spending the day recruiting Memphis!
Doesn't matter if it is East TN or West TN
the buzz all over the state is nothing but
    the #VOLS! #VFL

...and that last post was 01-22-2013. Still two weeks until NSD...

Sounds like UT has a shot at him if it's true that he said 50 people from his high school went to Tennessee (i wonder how many went to LSU?), that Tennessee is a home away from home, that he's interested in hearing from the new Tennessee coaching staff, etc

If i was Butch Jones, I'd be going after him hard.

From 2001 alone, the new Tennessee DL Coach, Steve Stripling, was the DL coach for...
2nd R and Pro Bowl DE LaMarr Woodley at Michigan
2nd R DT Alan Branch at Michigan
2nd R DE Dewayne White at Louisville
2nd R DE Derek Wolfe at Cincy
3rd R DT John Hughes at Cincy
4th R DT Gabe Watson at Michigan
4th R DT Terrance Taylor at Michigan
4th R DT Matthias Askew at Mich St
4th R DT Domata Peko at Mich St
5th R DT Clifton Ryan at Mich St
7th R DT Kevin Vickerson at Mich St

From 2005 alone, the new Tennessee DC/LB coach, John Jancek, was LB coach for...
3rd R LB Rennie Curran at Georgia
3rd R LB Akeem Dent at Georgia
3rd R LB Justin Houston at Georgia
5th R LB Marcus Howard at Georgia

    The
    Rivals.com analysts tackle some questions
about the final rankings process in a
    roundtable format.

    1. Name a player who fared surprisingly
well during all-star season to earn a bump
    in the rankings.
    ...
Josh Helmholdt, Midwest: A player who
jumped out and surprised me, and went from
the bottom portion of the Rivals100 well into
the top half of that ranking, was Memphis
(Tenn.) Central defensive end Frank Herron .
Even amongst a loaded East defensive line,
and going head-to-head with some of the
top offensive linemen in the country, Herron
was a noticeably impactful player at the U.S.
    Army All-American Bowl. Another pleasant
surprise was Herron came in looking taller
and bigger than his listed 6-foot-5, 236
pounds. Normally, listed weights tend to be
    inflated, but Herron's numbers were
    underreported.

    Dave Hooker of ESPN :
The Memphis ( Tenn.) Central prospect
has expressed strong interest in LSU
    throughout the recruiting process .
However , the four - star defensive end is
also a top priority for Tennessee , which
is trying to improve its recruiting in
    Memphis.

And some posts about him on LSU forums...

HUGE, MONSTER GET for the Tigers!

It's hard to say a 4* guy is under rated but
given I think Herron is a 3 and done player
similar to Brockers that is how I feel.

To me this kid may wind up being the stud
of the class. I think this kid is ready to shine
    in TS.

Frank Herron says "LSU just felt like home. I
know they love me down there"

    I saw him at the
spring game and chief and brick were
working this kid more than any other recruit
    on the field.

Mr. Herron, the 2016 NFL Draft says hi.

    this kid is too good.

    explosive first step

    quick burst off the line.

    Great upside

I really like him, and can't wait to see him in
    P and G.

will see the field a ton next year.

    Herron is a beast and
glad to have him as a Tiger!!

Frank Herron is a big prize for LSU

Good pick up for Lsu...kid is a player

He is physically ready to play as a freshman.

Really like this guy!! Great size and
    athletic ability!!

    he is
very athletic and def. a defensive end who
    can get to the QB.

He was unblockable with his speed rush at
the Nike combine this summer against the
    best o-lineman in the country.

This is a great signing all the way around....
this kid is an absolute specimen.

He is plenty strong and athletic.

crazy athletic ability...he's a relentless competitor.

Really good player. High ceiling. I think
people should be more excited about this
    guy.

    Barton Simmons @bartonsimmons
    I like
Frank Herron more today after watching him
camp then I did before. I already liked him a
    lot

    Frank Herron @FRANKHERRONjr I love
    #LSU fans

    Just finished
watching a vid on Rivals and apparently he
blew up the the Memphis Nike camp. Was
    MVP and was unbelievable.

    I think Herron and
Gilmore are our two most important
    defensive recruits. ...
Really hope he signs with LSU
    in February

Holding on to Herron is huge in my opinion
and Ole Miss and Tennessee will make a
strong run at him. This will be one of the
guys that LSU will have to recruit like he
    isn't committed.

Still LSU last I heard. He is getting pressed by a bunch of schools but hasn't budged.
