I would not want to be held in company with some of the decisions my own brother has made. I'll afford Rickey the same courtesy as everyone else should do automatically.

It isn't the name or the bloodlines, folks, it's the person.

while I hope and will now start praying everyday that Tyga73 goes straight to heaven, if I made a post this morally sick and mentally disturbed, I would expect to be burned alive in hell for a while

Personally, I like cornerbacks that play with a little swagger. It'll be interesting to compare/contrast the younger brothers of PP7 and JJ9 over the next few years.

I guess many people are going to hell then because a LOT of people wonder about how kids are brought up these days. I know my brother for example for years has said that the reason so many players have trouble in college is that they were treated like royalty in high school and could get away with anything...not making grades on their own but given to them to keep eligibility, etc. Thus, their character is not what it should be due to what they got away with for years. As far as judging people to go to Heaven or Hell, I guess I have fallen behind on my Bible. You are taking "the Mettsiah" a little too seriously. I'm pretty sure there is a Bible passage, "judge not yet ye be judged."

Anyway, I agree with some columns I've read that says Rickey Jefferson should start out with a clean slate. Just because Jordan Jefferson didn't show the best character in the world (accepting no responsibility for anything that goes bad even though he was the QB AND the fact that a SR starting QB goes out to a bar at 2AM), that won't be held against RJ by most people.

you have a guy that goes out there for four years and goes to battle for our school, bleeds, sweats, works, risks injury...is highly praised for his work ethic and leadership by his teammates...that's a man of good character.

the only reason you get fans bashing him because he didn't come through for us as a great QB...you even have fans blaming him for wanting to play QB in the first place...for not voluntarily benching himself

as for JJ's character, this what his teammates say:

(cut and pasted from the original Rickey Jefferson thread on this recruiting forum)

“ "It's painful to watch one of your friends who is a college student, who works year- round trying as hard as he can to be successful on the field, and the fans are booing him," senior offensive lineman T-Bob Hebert said (of Jefferson).

“ Kragthorpe said ... "He's very coachable, a guy who wants to learn, hungry to learn," he said of Jefferson.
    "He's very unselfish."

“ "This is definitely Jordan's team, and he's earned it," Hebert said. "We're behind him 100 percent. I can understand why people may be jaded about him. But this spring, he really emerged, and he took it into the summer during workouts. He was challenging people to rise to his level. "We were running 26 110-yard sprints, and Jordan just killed it. You're supposed to be tired and exhausted, and he's encouraging people to run them as hard as he is. I thought, 'Wow. This guy is ready to go.'"

“ "I don't think any player did more for me than getting me to handle myself in playing this game ," Mathieu said. "When I talked to Jordan when I got here, I knew I was talking to someone who had his ups and downs and handled them better than many guys could have. He helped me have confidence in myself, that, when the chance came, you could make the play. He kept doing that, over and over. "Jordan was easy to warm up to. He talked common sense. He made me a better person, a better player ."

“ "I don't know if you could ever have such a better teammate ," said Sam Montgomery, the defensive end who made life miserable for Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Wilson.
"To me, the way that man came back from all those off-field (issues) had a tremendous effect on how this team came together as one. ... I'll remember Jordan as All-World ."

Teammates don't throw players under the bus under any circumstances so what they say publicly really doesn't hold a lot of water. Having said that, no one has questioned his work ethic or getting along with teammates, and to my knowledge, JJ got any no trouble his first 3 years, I will give you that. However, two huge character warning flags showed up, OK maybe one and one warning flag for utter stupidity. The clear character flaw was not taking responsibility for anything he did that didn't work out. I have NEVER EVER seen a guy who has the ball in his hands so much and never takes one single shread of responsibility for anything that went wrong. He makes some incredibly stupid plays sometimes...any other guy would own up to them if they made them. He doesn't, simple as that. On the stupidity meter, you should know better than to go out to a bar in the early morning as a SR starting QB with the season about to begin. I DESPISE quoting Skip Bayless but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. "Nothing good can happen at a bar at 2AM." He was NOT talking about Jefferson and in fact was related to a pro's story similar to Jefferson's.

My take on the QB situation (not the popular one BTW) was that Jefferson was clearly the better QB compared to Lee. That is what I have personally seen and obviously what Miles, Crowton, Kragthorpe, Studrawa, and Gonzales have seen too. I have also said that neither QB is division 1-A caliber starter and that was pretty much proven by the NFL draft. You had 2 QBs from the #2 team in the nation ending their college careers and nobody drafted either one of them. Is that their fault they didn't live up to their HS ratings of 4*? Of course not. As I've said before, it is a shame that Zach Lee signed as a 1st round baseball pitcher with the Dodgers. He would have blown past both of these guys on the depth chart like they weren't even there. But once again, all you can ask for players to do is to give their best, which to my knowledge both did on the field. What resulted was two QBs who simply weren't good enough. And for those who might quote team record during their career, that would be funny. LSU has been winning via great defense, great special teams, amazing net turnover number, and a good running game. LSU won those games DESPITE the QB play, not because of it.

Rickey Jefferson is his own man & he has a clean slate as far as I'm concerned.

I've heard nothing but good things about Rickey Jefferson's ability and I'm glad he chose LSU.
