the Ole Miss coach on Gausman:

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco, who has coached starting pitchers Lance Lynn and Drew Pomeranz who are in the majors, left the tournament convinced he'd seen another eventual professional.
"He's as good as anybody we've seen," Bianco said. "(Chris) Stratton is terrific and has had a terrific year, but Gausman's fastball's just explosive. It's tough to catch up to. I thought today his offspeed stuff was terrific. A guy that has that kind of fastball and lives in the strike zone on both sides of the plate is tremendous. I think his upside's huge. He's going to pitch in the big leagues. No doubt about it."

against Ole Miss, Gausman earned his 10th win, which is second in the SEC behind Stratton (11) and is tied for fourth in the nation.

what a great career by senior 3B Tyler Hanover

with his 4 hits yesterday, he just moved into a tie for 10th-place on LSU's ALL-TIME hits list...and he's not done yet

some interesting quotes from an article about the postgame press conference:

HOOVER, Ala. — LSU’s...Tyler Hanover, was smeared with red clay from head to toe, mixed in with some impressive grass stains, and he was grinning through some caked mud around his lips and peering out from under a well-worn sweat-soaked ball cap.
“Now that’s what a ball player is supposed to look like,” LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said as Hanover stood up and shook off more dust before leaving the postgame interview podium at the SEC baseball tournament. “He stinks,” Mainieri added.

    ...

“We love Hoover a lot,” Mainieri said, and what’s not to like as the SEC does it up right and quarters all the teams in the same luxury hotel (which probably needed a good dusting after Hanover traipsed home through the lobby).
“We love the Wynfrey Hotel, the mall (attached to it). We especially love the police escorts. We love playing here,” Mainieri explained.

the Wynfrey Hotel is where Les Miles, Zack Mettenberger, Eric Reid, and Barkevious Mingo will be July 17-19, 2012 for SEC Media Days. it's located 20 minutes south of the SEC Headquarters in downtown Birmingham

when the LSU baseball team leaves the hotel to go to the SECT, they go on a 10-minute ride heading away from the city, most of the trip being on the interstate. the last mile of the trip, Stadium Trace Parkway, is one of the most beautiful streets i've ever seen, it's basically a majestic tree-lined parkway with a tree-lined median in the middle, it's gorgeous (i haven't been there, i just checked it out on google maps street view... yes, i'm a loser)

that beautiful mile takes you to Regions Park, a minor league ballpark that is a little bit bigger than Alex Box (Regions Park: 10,800, Alex Box: 10,326)

for an idea of what it's like to be on the team bus headed to the ball park, here's a video of what it was like on the Vanderbilt team bus when they were headed down the interstate to Baton Rouge to play LSU (I had no idea those buses were so nice):

LSU and MSU have played four times this season. The series is split and all but one game - a 7-1 MSU win on March 18 - has been decided by one run

Miss State is only a 2 hour drive from Regions Park, so their fans should be there in force (LSU is a 6-hour drive)

Eades will start today for LSU. Miss State coach Cohen said: "There's not a tremendous amount of drop-off (with Eades), even though their No. 1 guy (Kevin Gausman) is phenomenal."

the starter for Miss State is LHP Jacob Lindgren, who has 18 K's and 4 walks in 19 innings, and opposing batters are hitting .243 against him. he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round of MLB 2011 Draft

“Lindgren is a guy who pitched awfully well against Kentucky (on Sunday),” Cohen said Thursday. “I thought he pitched very, very well against them in his last time out.” in that game, he went 5 and 1/3 innings, struck out 7, and only allowed 1 run on 3 hits

in the top of the 1st, LSU loaded the bases (Nola walk, Katz single, Rhymes walk), and then Ross hit a 2-RBI single to score Nola and Katz!!!

    2-0 LSU

If LSU wins today, I know they have to beat UK twice to make it to the championship round, but if they do and they face an undefeated Vandy team, would they also have to beat them twice or is the championship a 'winner take all'?

That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing. I thought it was a double-elimination tournament.
