"This time of the year, the postseason, is the most fun," Mainieri said. "Our players have worked extremely hard all year to get into this position, and now they have a chance to create a memorable season. The SEC Tournament is a tremendous event, one in which we've had great success in recent years. We're taking the approach that this is the third straight week we're playing for a championship - we clinched the division title two weeks ago and the SEC championship last week, now we have a chance at the tournament title." The Tigers are 13-1 in their past 14 SEC Tournament games; the only loss in that span came in LSU's 2009 tournament opener versus Vanderbilt. LSU has won three of the past four SEC Tournament crowns, claiming the title in 2008, 2009 and 2010 before falling short of a tournament bid in 2011. LSU has a league-best 63-35 (.643) all-time record in the SEC Tournament, and the Tigers own a conference-high nine tournament titles. Alabama is second behind LSU with seven tournament titles, and Mississippi State is third with six championships. DATES/TIMES OF LSU GAMES Wednesday, May 23 --12:30 p.m. CT (time approximate) vs. either Ole Miss, Miss State or Arkansas Thursday, May 24 --9:30 a.m. CT (if LSU loses on Wednesday) or --12:30 p.m. CT (if LSU wins on Wednesday; time approximate) (remainder of schedule to be determined by LSU game results) LSU's games on Wednesday and Thursday will be televised by Fox Sports Houston, Fox Sports Southwest and SportSouth. Live video is available at www.ESPN3.com, though blackouts may apply in SEC areas.
Do you think LSU will go all out, or take it easy? Me? I think we'll go all out but take it easy on the pitching staff. Lots of pitchers in all our games....no seven inning efforts with the starters for sure.
based on what we did in 2008, 2009, and 2010... we'll expect all starters to put in 7-inning efforts, if they can in 2008, we threw our 3 most experienced starters right off the bat: --Verdugo in Game 1/Wed (went 6.0 innings) --Martin in Game 2/Thurs (went 7.0 innings) --Brown in Game 3/Sat (pulled after 4.0 innings after giving up 6 runs on 7 hits) --in Game 4/Sun, the final game, Coleman (who was a bull pen guy that year) went 6.0 innings in 2009, we did the same thing with our 3 starters: --Ross in Game 1/Wed (6.0 innings) --Ranaudo in Game 2/Thur (7.1 innings) --Coleman in Game 3/Fri (8.0 innings) --Game 4/Sat -- n/a --Game 5/Sat was reduced to 7 innings, and Cain (bull pen guy that year) made it deep into the 6th inning --in Game 6/Sun, the final, Byrd (who was a bull pen guy that year) went 7 innings in 2010, we did the same thing with our two most experienced starters: --Ranaudo in Game 1/Wed (7.2 innings)...by Sun, Ranaudo came back in and pitch the last 3 innings --Ross in Game 2/Thurs (8.0 innings) --Game 3/Sat was reduced to 7 innings, and Alsup (a bull pen guy that year) went all 7 innings --in Game 4/Sun, Bradshaw (a bull pen guy that year) went 6.1 innings
I don't remember what we were ranked in those years. This year we have a number one seed locked up. That's why I think we won't push our pitching staff hard. But, I like the all out mentality. I can see laying off might dull the competitive edge we gained in that great series with South Carolina last weekend.
A few more TV nuggets: http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=0yki71j9yrc=&tabid=1729&mid=4528 All games shown on CSS cable will 1) be shown on Cox Sports cable 2) be on DirecTV channel 210 3) be on espn3.com without blackouts The other games will be on espn3.com, but are subject to blackouts All games are supposed to be on Sirius 213 and XM 199. That implies they are SEC broadcasts and hopefully the SEC page will have streaming audio as well
Here's the full bracket for convenience. At least the SEC didn't bury it in the deepest depths of their web site this year. http://secdigitalnetwork.com/SECSPO...x?fileticket=2bT5Zmb7fV8=&tabid=1729&mid=4528
