We've had holes at the Safety position for the past seasons and chose not to address it amongst other defensive holes.Wish we had our first round pick this year.Very interested to see who will be the candidates for the next DC. Is Williams gone? If they make some strong trades and have a good draft, they can contend again next year. But not if they keep neglecting the defense.
Seems like the secondary was getting burned a lot this year, althought some of that is probably due to Williams' schemes and not so much a lack of talent in the secondary. Saintslogo
Williams is gone...Saints not having a first is going to hurt but imo if the Saints got a Ballhawking Big Play Safety and move Malcolm to SS and Harper to OLB beause he excels around the line of scrimmage and that would improve our defense. One player I would like to draft or sign is T.Y.Hilton
I'd personally love to see the Saints go after Kirby Smart from Bama as the new DC. He's a young guy who has been taught by some of the best defensive minds in the game, and the job could be a huge stepping stone for him. Also, anything that would send Saban scrambling for a replacement is a good thing. :thumb: As for the defensive players, the Saints need to clean house and start over. No matter who, if you can get draft picks or new players for them, do it. They also need to step it up in the free agent market. However, they should get the new DC in place ASAP so that person can assist with scouting the new players because it is definitely obvious that Loomis and Payton do not have a clue about the defensive side of the team.
looking at who is expected to be available in the late 2nd, we have a good shot at LB Vontaze Burfict. we might be able to trade up a bit and get DE Whitney Mercilus.
Shanle has to be gone...he just let Vernon Davis score on the last play...hurts to know the NFC championship game could've been N.O
I thought the assignment basically asked him to stay in front with Harper having the Top coverage....you definitely just don't let him run right by you
