Maybe because he is flexible. Scott carried the load as much or more than Hester then had injuries. Les has changed as experiance has taught and the situation has required in many ways. He realized he needed a top notch D and worked till he found The Chief. He has thrown the ball when needed, mixed it up in 2007, and relied on D & special teams the last 2 years when we had limited QB play. He will adapt this year to the strengths of the team without changing his basic philosophy. That is the mark of a great coach.
Definitely a valid point. However, like TF satated, we have had feature backs in the past; just not in the last 2 years because of sub par QB play. After a really impressive 15 yd run in the TN game last year he saw increased amounts of playing time, until that boondogle of a NC "game". I wouldn't be surprised to see him take the majority of the snaps this season, his sophomore year, and then become a feature back in his junior year.
Let me rephrase: No LSU running back will win the heisman trophy as long as they're running a "running back by committee" scheme, which works pretty phucking well btw, change of pace, keep all your guys fresh. There. Take it fwiw. Most of these teams don't have 5 running backs carrying the load. Bama used two, and Richardson was a beast. LSU doesn't have anyone his caliber. RGIII was damn near 100% of Baylor's offense.
If I was a running back, I wouldn't mind the running back by committee. This will probably extend your career in the NFL. It may cost you a few dollars up front, but the abuse a tailback takes when you are the feature tailback is glaring. How long is a guy like Trent Richardson going to last in the NFL 6 seasons? Maybe 7? Adrian Peterson has been in the league since 07, and if he makes it back from this last injury I would also venture that he will not be the Adrian Peterson of old. They just take way too much abuse when they are the feature tailback.
Yep, and in Peterson's case, they've wasted him. Could you imagine the two-headed monster they could've had if they'd drafted Richardson?
If Mettenberger has superior stats than Barkley and LSU is ranked in the top 5, I don't see how they could pass Mett and give it to Barkley. They would have to give it to someone else.
Well, they did something this past year that we haven't seen , and that's give it to a quarterback who had 3 losses. Personally it was obvious who the best player in college football was last year, hands down it was Tyrann Mathieu, and it's not even debatable. I think he was slapped in the face, and the Heisman trophy lost what tiny sliver of credibility it had with last years trophy. Let's just stop saying the Heisman trophy is for the best player in college football, because it's not. It's for whomever they use as a posterchild, who also put up some good stats. For a few years there I thought they got it right, but last year was the nail in the coffin for me. It's a farce, a complete joke, and total bullshit award.
i don't know. what would it have we been like last year if we had RGIII instead of TM7? our D and punt returning wouldn't have been as good, but our offense would have been much better. for example, this is what TM7 did against Bama last year: Game 1: 0 points scored, 0 punt returns, 0 kick returns, 0 fumbles recovered, 0 forced fumbles, 0 kicks blocked, 0 INTs, 0 passes broken up, 5 tackles, 0 TFL, 0 sacks, 0 QB hurries Game 2: 0 points scored, 1 punt return for 1 yard, 0 kick returns, 0 fumbles recovered, 0 forced fumbles, 0 kicks blocked, 0 INTs, 2 passes broken up, 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 0 sacks, 0 QB hurries and this is what RGIII did against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State last year: Oklahoma: 551 yards of total offense (479 passing, 72 rushing) Oklahoma State: 452 yards of total offense (425 passing, 27 rushing) compare to LSU's offense vs. Bama: Game 1: 239 yards of total offense (91 passing, 148 rushing) Game 2: 92 yards of total offense (53 passing, 39 rushing) i know RGIII played against different teams than we did, but he was one of only four players in college football that averaged over 350 yards of total offense per game: 1. Case Keenum, Houston (404.7) -- undrafted 2. RGIII, Baylor (384.0) -- 1st Round -- 47 total TDs (37 pass, 10 rush), 6 INT 3. Brandon Weeden, Ok State (355.8) -- 1st Round -- 38 total TDs (37 pass, 1 rush), 13 INT 4. Nick Foles, Arizona (352.2) -- 3rd Round -- 28 total TDs (all pass), 14 INT also, check out how he did in passer rating: 1. Russell Wilson, Wisconsin (191.78) -- 3rd Round -- 33 TD, 4 INT -- 72.8% (#3 in NCAA) 2. RGIII, Baylor (189.47) -- 1st Round -- 37 TD, 6 INT -- 72.4% (#4 in NCAA) 3. Kellen Moore, Boise St (175.19) -- undrafted 4. Case Keenum, Houston (174.03) -- undrafted 5. Andrew Luck, Stanford (169.68) -- 1st Round -- 37 TD, 10 INT -- 71.3% (#7 in NCAA)
Mathieu is a defensive player. He doesn't get the ball in his hands every snap. Yet somehow was able to score touchdowns on defense and special teams, collect interceptions, and force fumbles, and recover those fumbles. RGIII had to the throw the ball to someone. He also had a very good running game. The only thing that I can think of that helped Mathieu was having the other side covered by Morris Claiborne. I'm talking about overall football player. With all the accolades RGIII didn't win the Big 12, nor did he win the Big 12 South. You start giving that award away, may as well have given it to Case Keenum. The best football player in NCAA in 2011 was Tyrann Mathieu. Hands down, argument over, I win.
