by Chris Huston, Heisman voter and publisher of Heisman Pundit http://heismanpundit.com/2012/05/01/the-2012-heisman-trophy-watch-list/ according to ESPN's Pac-12 blog, "No question that Barkley is the early leader in the minds of many. Given his statistics last season, the receivers he has around him and the lofty preseason ranking the Trojans are expected to enjoy, he’s looking down on the pack – at least for now." http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/38128/three-from-pac-12-on-heisman-watchlist Pro-Style QBs --Landry Jones, Sr., QB, Oklahoma (343.3 passing ypg last year, 337.0 in 2010) --Geno Smith, Sr., QB, West Virginia (337.3 passing ypg last year) --Matt Barkley, Sr., QB, USC (294.0 passing ypg last year) --Tyler Bray, Jr., QB, Tennessee (283.3 passing yards per game last year) --Tyler Wilson, Sr., QB, Arkansas (279.8 passing yards per game last year) --Tajh Boyd, Jr., QB, Clemson (273.4 passing ypg last year) --Keith Price, Jr., QB, Washington (235.6 passing ypg, 438 in bowl game last year) --Aaron Murray, Jr., QB, Georgia (224.9 passing ypg last year, 234.5 in 2010) note that 7 of them are in the top 11 of the returning Big Five Conference QBs, ranked by their passing ypg last season: #1 Landry Jones, Oklahoma (343.3) #2 Geno Smith, West Virginia (337.3) #3 Seth Doege, Texas Tech (333.7) #4 Matt Barkley, USC (294.0) #5 Tyler Bray, Tennessee (283.3) #6 Tyler Wilson, Arkansas (279.8) #7 Sean Mannion, Oregon State (277.3) #8 Tajh Boyd, Clemson (273.4) #9 Sean Renfree, Duke (240.2) #10 Bryn Renner, UNC (237.4) #11 Keith Price, Washington (235.6) as for Aaron Murray, he is #15 with 224.9 and the next-highest SEC QB is AJ McCarron at #22 with 202.6 ... not counting Missouri's James Franklin (220.9) Dual-Threat QBs --James Franklin, Jr., QB, Missouri (296.4 yards of total offense per game last year--220.9 passing, 75.46 rushing) --Denard Robinson, Sr., QB, Michigan (257.6 yards of total offense per game last year--167.2 passing, 90.46 rushing. in 2010: 328.6 yards of total offense per game--197.7 passing, 130.92 rushing) --Collin Klein, Sr., QB, Kansas State (235.3 yards of total offense per game last year--147.5 passing, 87.77 rushing) another one to watch is Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech, 248.7 yards of total offense per game last year--215.2 passing, 33.50 rushing Running Backs --Montee Ball, Sr., RB, Wisconsin (159.2 yards from scrimmage per game last year--137.36 rushing, 21.9 receiving) --Marcus Lattimore, Jr., RB, South Carolina (142.9 yards from scrimmage per game last year--116.86 rushing, 26.0 receiving) --Knile Davis, Jr., RB, Arkansas (112.2 yards from scrimmage per game in 2010--101.69 rushing, 10.5 receiving... over his last 7 games of 2010, he averaged 148.9 yards from scrimmage per game) --Cierre Wood, Sr., RB, Notre Dame (99.3 yards from scrimmage per game last year--84.77 rushing, 14.5 receiving) Ball (#1), Lattimore (#2), and Davis (#10) all rank in the top 10 of the returning Big Five Conference RBs who had the most yards per scrimmage per game last season (using Davis' 2010 numbers) ... if you just look at Davis' number over the last 7 games of 2010 (when he blew up), he'd be #2 ahead of Lattimore as for Cierre Wood, he ranks #13. Kenny Hilliard will be in contention his Jr year, imo. He needs more touches, but I think he has what it takes to get in the race his Jr or Sr season.
Omg. No LSU running back will ever win a heisman trophy under Les Miles' watch. Not while carries are being split between 5 - 6 players all competing for time. Why is this so phucking difficult for people to understand? If he was a " FEATURED" back...then yeah...I could possibly see it, but on THIS team, and the way THESE coaches recruit THEIR players, apologies brah, but it ain't gonna happen.
This is the truth and I think there's plenty to be said for having an extra 3,4, or even 5 hundred carries in the tank once u get to the pros. You have a shelf full of trophies, an NFL contract and fresh legs. I wouldn't mind a Heisman but the team accomplishments and being healthy and fresh going into the pros matters more IMO. To be honest the Heisman doesn't mean much to me anymore. I appreciate the history of it but it's kind of a relic to me.
? Les has done the feature back thing...sure we split it up last season, but in 2010 it was all Ridley, in 2008, it was all Scott, in 2007, it was all Hester, etc
