Re: 2011 WR Jarvis Landry Gavin Webster. He was named Louisiana's Mr. Football for 2009 (Kenny Hillard came in 2nd), named the outstanding offensive player of the 2009 Louisiana 4A All-State team, etc. In 2009, he threw for 2,962 yards and 38 touchdowns passing and ran for 1,350 yards and 26 touchdowns. I went and saw Lutcher play two years ago in the 4A State Championship game, and he stood out more than everybody else on the field... he was beast, even won MVP of the game and had all the cameras on him after the game (as for Landry, he did very well in that game, and was just a sophomore at the time). Scout ranks Webster as a 2-star QB, Rivals as a 3-star ATH, and ESPN as a 2-star ATH. He's got offers from Memphis of C-USA (where DeAngelo Williams of the Panthers went), Northern Illinois of the MAC (where Michael Turner of the Falcons went), La. Tech of the WAC (where Terry Bradshaw and Willie Roaf went), SLU, UL-Monroe, Northwestern State, etc.
Re: 2011 WR Jarvis Landry I think Memphis or a similar mid-major school would be a good place for him to go if he is set on playing QB. I saw him when Lutcher came to play Huntington in the playoffs. I thought he was a good HS quarterback, not great. He was very athletic, very mobile but as far as being a major D1 prospect, I think he falls a little short. Don't get me wrong, he probably would have started for all of the teams around here aside from maybe Haughton (Dak Prescott). Maybe someone from that area could chime in their 2 cents, I have really only seen him play 2 games (last year's state championship on tv). I think if he is interested in a position besides QB, he wil stand a better chance of getting an offer from us.
Re: 2011 WR Jarvis Landry Thanks guys, I just don't follow recruting that close, especially LA high school. Pretty dang obvious you guys do. Thanks for info. Pretty impressed I picked up on the player of the year, if I say so myself. hwr
Re: Jarvis Landry Commits ha, why do all these good players keep committing to LSU? I thought for sure we had blown it after the way we utilized Shep and Randle. Oh well, great news. Maybe the Louisiana high school players are taking it upon themselves to commit early and bring us back to another Sugar Bowl Championship in 2011. :geaux:
Re: Jarvis Landry Commits You are a self described Gary Crowton hater but I think you are one of those Tulane fans that really hates LSU, judging by your last post on the recruiting thread. Why don't you be a little more direct and just come out and say what you really mean to any recruits who happen to read this thread? It doesn't take a genius to realize that you really hope no decent recruits come to LSU so you can claim victory and tell all your friends you were right. If you really are an LSU fan (which I seriously doubt), why don't you try being more astute in your observations or admit you may be wrong instead of wishing doom on the program to prove your point? Your comments do not belong here, but on the sidelines...but being a Tulane grad, you're smart enough to know that aren't you. This forum is not about coaching...it's about RECRUITING and this thread is about Jarvis Landry.
Re: Jarvis Landry Commits Wow, been outa town but Awesome get!!! Is this gonna be the greatest class ever?? Makes me wonder how we would be doing if we had beaten Ole Miss & PS. Great Recruiting so far Coaches, Make it work on the Field also with tons of Wins!!!!!twocrystals!:geaux:
Reading the latest interview with Landry on Rivals and I have to say, I really disliked what I read. Either this kid is as arrogant as they come, or somebody needs to educate him on what not to say. Not gonna quote it directly, as it was a premium article, but the sum is "I like LSU, and will get playing time, but am looking for a better offer." What would that be? A Range Rover for your girlfriend? In light of this interview, I doubt I will feel comfortable about his recruitment process over the next year.
I can tell you right now...Frank Wilson will fix this...plus Landy's best friend is Anthony Johnson who won't like this article either... I am hoping it's a joke by him but who know's we're dealing with 17-18 year olds here.
